Ok Rupophobic calm down. Opeth is a fabulous band and is one of the finest metal bands of all time. But saying they are better than Bach, Beethoven, and the boys is sheer blasphemy. Opeth can't even hold a candle to them. Have you even listened in detail and studied those classical musicians. I doubt you have which makes me want to encourage you to do so. If you think Opeth is great (which they are and have hardly any rivals and are gods) dive deep into the classical gods. They have such sights to show you.

Not at all overrated in my opinion. Its not my favourite album by opeth,but it was the album that made me an instant fan. Ive heard few better openers and title tracks on any other album ive listened to, and ive listened to a lot! 'Blackwater Park' remains one of my favourite albums of all time to be honest!

Great album. However, i can think of one line that topps any of the lyrics on it "i am the table" from metallica

To this day it's still my favourite Opeth album, It's the record that turned me onto them in the first place, too bad it was their last "extreme-prog" album.
I remember from the moment I heard "The Funeral Portrait", I was in love!

errrmm, well, that can be argued. I can appreciate where you're coming from though, seeing as it has gutteral vocals and so forth. But the instrumentation is even different compared to all the previous Opeth albums. Deliverance was definately their turning point, the production says it all. I find they were trying to incorporate more [mainstream] Death Metal elements, like on "Wreath" and "Master's Apprentice". Maybe I was wrong for saying it's not extreme-prog, but same approach, I'm not so sure.

I don't remember saying that they have the same approach to their music, just correcting the comment that Deliverance could be considered "extreme-prog" or not... which they are, even you said it: it has death metal elements... Although there has always been death metal elements on Opeth's album so it goes without saying really.
The only major difference in Deliverance is that it's songwritting is more simple and monotonous... Still has the basic Opeth sound on it.
I never feel confortable of saying that Opeth is extreme though, it just sounds wrong to me no matter which album.

Edit: woa, I totally forgot I gave it a 9... Was sure I gave it an 8.

Listening to everyday....

Hell yeah, i listened this album many years ago but i passed it because i didnt like the metal art so much, at this point being a massive listener of this subgenre i must say this albums is a Piece of True Art. I like it too knowing that Wilson helped producing it.
