There are a ton of bands with awful lyrics, but one band that I really hate is Korpiklaani. Almost every word they say makes me cringe( not to mention the music ) imo, of course.

Korpiklaani have a piece of lyrics I literally worship on the first album:

Most probably. I really like them. Finnish humor is quite funny to me so that might be the reason

What I found fascinating in your previous comment - there are some genres which insist on being high-brow and mysterious and "smarter", while in reality they often fail. Prog is my favorite genre, and while I do admit there is an abundance of good writers there, sometimes prog metallers fail so hard it's ridiculous just because they try to tackle the mysteries of life of which they know nothing about. And in contrast some of my favorite stories are from power metal bands who prove you can stray from the "swords and dragons" principle - Kamelot have two awesome concept albums and Sonata Arctica have some really insightful psychology.

i disagree with them, it coming out where it entered is certainly not enjoyable
and yeah, hadn"t i known such genres existed, i"d probably just have written "damn that"s stupid"
my favourite stories are from authors, not musicians

What about Immortal?

Someone's already said it but I agree, most metal bands in general have terrible words (i hesitate even to call them "lyrics")...

Personally I really can't stand puerile gore fantasy shit, songs glorifying war and violence and rape (what's the fucking point in that?), songs about devils and demons (unless they're extrordinarily well-written, and I've heard that too). I do like insight and well-turned phrases, I like it when the dark side of the human psyche is laid bare - and metal is good at this - as long as it's done intelligently. I also like humour in lyrics, and too many writers apparently take themselves way too seriously.

But then, being br00tal is srs bzns.

Metal certainly isn't the only kind of music which fails on this point. In fact I'd say metal in general does better than most styles of music; but like hip hop (which also does well in the lyrics discussion), metal has much more bad than good.

Anybody seen the video for Decapitated's 'Homo Sum'?

I like them too. Immortal is my favorite band. The post was directed to Daniell who hates them a lot. He hates their lyrics, their song titles and their grammar. I argued with him on this topic several times before, so I was surprised he didn't mention them here.

As badass as the first couple albums were, Children of Bodom has written some piss poor lyrics. The guitar lines where killer though.
