Indeed I suspect global warming and other forms of environmental pollution probably have a far great impact on their sustainability.

But no-one gives a flying fuck about that.

Global warmings a little harder to get a grip on than stopping the irrelevant killing of whales .

Not saying the methods are correct. Indeed if they are going to assign a manageable quota, then they could also include provisions for humane slaughter.

And would one want to eat any meat after seeing how it's slaughtered?

Not irrelevant to Japanese who eat them.

Global warming is the far bigger problem. Changes in climate can destroy food stocks and interfere with reproductive cycles.

I totally agree. I actually think the same about cattle and other livestock. No need to make animals suffer.

Recently Australia banned livestock of cattle to Indonesia due to inhumane slaughtering techniques. I totally agree with those bans.

I'm also against feed lots and battery farms.

Nasty things indeed but unfortunately common in Western agriculture.

I doubt 90% of the world gives a shit about whales. People in Africa, Asia, Middle East etc probably don't give a toss.

The main anti-whaling states are all Western and primarily English speaking - USA, Canada, Australia, NZ etc.

Most of the rest voted based on who gives them the most cash: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Whaling_Commission

As stated the issue is purely cultural.

Oh and the Norwegians are keeping their whaling quota unchanged in 2014 (1286):

Point is Westerners get all chest puffy over Japanese killing whales but don't care about barbaric practices in their own countries.

And funny enough how not many people whinge about Norwegians who still kill several hundred every year.

Have you hanged out with a chicken all day and then a whale or dog? they don't have the need for intellectual stimulation or emotional companionship like a mammal with a higher intelligence, i'm not saying battery farmings good but a chicken can happily live in a pen without a second thought. You could hardly call it barbaric compared to killing whales

People do care about the Norweigians killing whales and being oil greedy and so on, obviously with the limit being an eight or whatever of the japanese it's not as high priorety

Huh?

So you're ok with this?

They're all living creatures and they're all suffering,

Thanks for the hypocrisy - though that's typical of environmentalists.

Norwegian quota is same as Japan. They kill several hundred though due to lower market demand.

Actually I'm being so not racist that I'm assuming that not everyone thinks like a wealthy 21st century First World Anglo-Saxon and has time to think about such matters.

I don't think the average joe blow in the world who is struggling to make ends meet thinks much about some animals thousands of miles away from them.

I reckon a lot of the world's population would gladly chomp down on a whale steak, given they probably never eat much meat in the first place due to abject poverty.

In the grand scheme of the world, you are filthy rich.

Most people on the planet don't have access to drinkable water and functioning sewerage, let alone electricity or computers.

I seriously doubt they think about whales.
