I fell off a scaffold and broke it a about 5 months ago, it has healed and i have been back to work but yesterday it started playing up. I would rather rest it so i can surf than make it worse by going to work. Boss will be angry but fuck him, it's his fault i broke it in the first place.

Oh I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah, resting is the only thing you can do. It's vital. I have low bone density in the lower limbs, and I've had five stress fractures on the M2 (on both feet, but not five each) in almost five years. Not putting more pressure on it determines if the next fracture is going to be in two weeks or in two years.

Knowing how useless they are, they would only make you spend more money on a radio that will reveal nothing, send you home with anti-inflammatory meds, tell you to rest, and to come back if it doesn't stop. But I don't think one day is enough. But you have to work, so when you go back, just try not to put pressure on that particular bone. Which is it by the way?

In that case you shouldn't be worrying about the callus, if it was it on the M5 acting up, you'd feel pain exactly at that point and nowhere else. I'm no doctor, but after five times and being extra-cautious because I work out a lot, I know all the symptoms of a fracture re-opening itself. Either you hurt yourself in a different way today; or that accident that caused the fracture also involved your tendons and stuff and they are acting up now because you push yourself too hard.

no it's not a different injury, i had similar pains when the bone was actually still broken. I have been up and down a scaffold the last couple of days which probably triggered all the muscles still recovering i guess, i also heard that when the muscles are fattening up again after being worn thin from the broken bone it can be painful

Oh crap. That must have been a nasty accident then. Yeah, same conclusion then, rest. If you have one of those anti-inflammatory gels, massage your foot, it helps. Or soak it in hot water. I hope it gets better.

No, if you are sure you aren't feeling anything at the exact point the bone broke, it might just be the muscles and tendons you were talking about that are inflamed. But again, I can't tell you for sure since an inflammation of the muscles around a fracture are the symptoms of one. My fractures were always very easy to pin-point because they were never caused by an accident. Am I worrying you right now? I was trying to do the opposite!

Yeah, I wear them sometimes when I'm afraid I might do a bad move and want to limit the damage. If you put on one of those anti-inflammatory gels before putting the thingy on, it can help even more. You just have to be careful not to have one that's too tight.
When I was really fearing a fracture would come, I would use a (complicated) strapping technique that would pull the muscles around the M2 and immobilise them and only them. I can find a youtube link for that if you want.

Sorry I only have this one in French, but you don't exactly need to understand what he says, it's pretty visual: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPucwFMzdek. I think you also need the sticky kind of wraps.
