It' s getting close to new year. Let's nominate the top ten worst albums released by an extreme metal band in 2011. Around X-mas I will put together a list that we can all vote upon to name the final winner/loser. So .. Come on! Name the worst crap that was released this year!

The nominees so far

- Morbid Angel's - In The Anus (or whatever it's called) - actually: Illud Divinum Insanus
- Metallica - Lulu
- Peste Noire - L'Ordure à L'état Pur
- Almost all 2011 albums were bad except for Immolation's Providence EP
- Arch Enemy - Khaos Legions
- Krallice - Diotima
- Cradle of Filth - Evermore Darkly
- The Haunted - Unseen

I'll start with one that is hard to beat:

This is just one example of from album that (in my humble opinion) should never have been made.

Well that's not really an extreme metal album.

Whilst a great band normally Monarch's Sortilège EP is a total rip off being only a few minutes of barely ambient music. It's essentially an intro and nothing else.

Peste Noire's L'Ordure à L'état Pur is a horrible mess of a record.

Shining's new one is a horrible borefest of a record.

Also can't stand the new Krallice album. For me further proof that technical skill does not equal good songwriting, an alien concept to Krallice it seems. Actually songwriting full stop is something that's unknown to them, let alone good songwriting.

I might have been unclear but .. you can only nominate ONE! and I do believe Metallica is extreme metal by heritage;)

You were so unclear you made no mention of suggesting more than one record ;]

By virture of it being collaborative (in favour of Lou Reed in fact) I'd say it has no business being classed under extreme. We talking about the album here, not the band.

So if Pig Destroyer decide to make synthpop album, it would be extreme metal because of their heritage?
Your logic, dear sir, is extremely flawed.

On-Topic:
Morbid Angel's In The Anus, or whatever it's called. Pretty much a clear winner, with tracks varying from completely mediocre death metal to utter industrial abortions.

Oh, and Krallice I also found to be a total snorefest.

Yeah I absolutely named the thread wrong. I was thinking "Worst album by an extreme metal band" and wrote something else completely. I was kinda looking for the highest degree of degeneration an extreme metal band has reached. I goofed it up when I created the thread unfortunately and you're all right in what you're saying.

I haven't heard it but according to what I read Opeth's latest would be a good example of what I was looking for in this thread.

Then I think you might want to change the thread title, something like 'Worst Album in 2011 by an Extreme Metal band', that way you're not being specific to the latest album's extremity.

Opeth's newest certainly fails as an extreme album, but that's simply because it wasn't meant to be. For me that album doesn't fit the description of either 'worst extreme metal album' or 'worst album by an extreme metal band', likely though there are those who feel content about the latter.

Although they haven"t been extreme for some albums already, i think Arch Enemy (album Khaos Legions) is a suggestion that fits the question well

Not sure if we should call it "extreme" but Mastodon takes the cake for me. I tried hearing it many times yet I just can't find anything in it that can make me flip out my penis and furiously masturbate and chant its name like how I did for Blut Aus Nord or Alrakis.

Haven't heard the new Krallice yet. Is it that bad? Their self titled realise was very good though. I love that album.

Wouldn't call "Lulu" extreme metal, so my vote surely goes to Morbid Angel's piece of crap. That album shocked me, I never in my wildest dreams thought Morbid Angel would record something like that. On the other hand, me and my friends have had a great time laughing at the album. So I'll give it something.

You're missing the point. It's not about the album being extreme metal or not it's about the worst fu**up of an album an Extreme Metal Band released during 2011. Think "Kiss - The Elder". Btw I just listened to "Morbid Angel - Illud Divinum Insanus" and I don't think it's that bad. OK, I have never been a Morbid Angels fan so I clearly don't have any expectations and sure there are some really bad songs on it, but I don't think it's a total disaster like "Lulu". "Lulu" is probably the worst piece of shit I heard since Kiss released "The Elder".
