Simply put Heavy Bass and Groove Death Metal from England. Those Once Loyal there last album was amazing. There earlier work is also very impressive. They've had a few to say the least line up changes, but they have stayed fairly consitent in their work. To bad they haven't been in the U.S forever. Really good band that I recommend to any Death Metal fan.

Yeh, I think its better, I got to grips with the tracks on Those Once Loyal much quicker...

They tend to use many of the same riffs... For example... The start of Embers is repeated in The KillChain...

Well, the riff you're referring to is a kind of ongoing Bolt Thrower tradition - a few of their albums contain a song which features that riff. It was started on the song World Eater (Realm Of Chaos, 1989), and was also used in Cenotaph (War Master, 1991), Embers (The IVth Crusade, 1992), Powder Burns (Mercenary, 1998), and most recently The KillChain.

Meshuggah takes one riff and spreads it out over 13 songs on Catch 33, Bolt Thrower takes one riff and spreads it out over 15+ years... I think it's a cool idea.

THe one thing I like best about Bolt Thrower is that they've stuck to their formula, but rather than just re-hash it album after album, they seem to tighten it up and improve upon it.

So what is the best Bolt Thrower album then?? I downloaded Realm of Chaos, but from what I hear this 'Those Once Loyal' sounds like it must be pretty good.

Bolt Thrower are awesome. The war lyrics fit perfectly to their crushing groove music. I like Those Once Loyal, Mercenary and The IVth Crusade best, haven't listened to the other albums much.

I would lean towards "IVth Crusade", but I also really enjoy "THose Once Loyal" and "For Victory." THeir albums are all on the same wavelength, so if you like one, you will most likely like them all.

What I always find myself saying when I listen to Bolt Thrower is "Man! I love the sound of those guitars! I wonder what kind of equipment they use . . . " I mean, the music is good too, and you can say a lot about the musicianship; it's just that what really strikes me about them is that they are the only death metal act I can appreciate because of the sound alone. It's just beautiful!

Exactly my thoughts. Just the sound of those thundering guitars, pummeling bass and excellent drumming really brings forth what death metal is, and should be. I think more death metal bands should see what Bolt Thrower is doing - that is creating offensive, unique but challenging death metal which keeps them as a benchmark to new bands in the genre.

Got impressed by everything they have ! From ...In Battle There is no Law to the Those Once Loyal album. They are extremely amaising. How should i say it. They have the unique sound a band needs. Also they have their pattern. War subjects seem to go on and on and never get boring ! I like that their first albums are raw but very impresive and hair raising, especialy the Concession Of Pain begining and Forgotten Existence and of course Nuclear Aftermath ! Also like, from the second album, almost all but especially Realm of Chaos, Eternal War, War Eater and Lost Souls Domain ! These songs simply leave me breathless !
The next album presents its self with songs like Cenotaph or War Master that simply amaize, The lyrics are simple but perfectly fit. Also the IV Crusade has a few killing songs ! Spearhed, Dying Creed, Through The Ages ( this one i particulary like becasue its something original ). Also the sound of this album is so evolved and slightly changed, but still has the Bolt Thrower sound ! ...For Victory is the albums with the greatest sond and riffs i know and also the album with the perfect war songs. Starts with ...For Victory, here the sound is kicking ass. Especially the part where everything intencifies. The voice grows desperate, the sound faster and faster till it reaches the climax, the killing guitar solo that stands against any death metal guitar solo. Its like geting into under your sking and straight into your bones. Armagedon Bound needs no comments. Simply great. My favorite one from this album and maybe on of their best is Forever Fallen. It has that unique sound, that war sound, don't know how to call it. Its like a war song that its ment to brind courage into the warriors hearts ! Maybe i am overreacting. Also Tank ( MK. I ) is what i can call a masterpiece. The begining is exactly like a tank crushing everything in its way.

I think I should stop even if i havent said anything about the rest. Anyways, i thought i should say something as long as some don't say anything, also the ones who don't know them should try listening at least the songs i have writen ! Thank for patience ( if anyone read anything ).

I have found out that contrary to the usual Bold Thrower albums who all sound somehow very similar, but great, Realm of Chaos is a great album, too. It's more "normal" death metal, but I think it's very much worth checking out. I will have to get my hands on In Battle there is no Law, too...

They make really catchy songs. The guitar riffs get stuck in your head easily. Bench is considered to be one of the first female musicians inside a Metal band.

Why do people wither absolutely love these guys or utterly despise them???
Ussually some like 1 or 2 releases from a death metal, then hate the rest due to style or line up change or whatever other reason you come up with. Bolt Thrower haven't changed their sound too much and most of their stuff is quality.

Idd. They havent made a single let down in their career, for what comes to their records, imo. I know alot of dudes wich have got into their stuff since early 90's and still dig them (wouldnt say that from too many dm bands). Thats somethin every band should be proud of.
