Of course we also need a new Rotting Christ topic in the new forum, right?

Rotting Christ is my favourite band by far, and especially their first three full-length albums are my favourites (they don't have ANY bad release, though)

There've been rumors about a new Rotting Christ album for months, but only very few seem to be true:

- the album is in production
- "Last news is that I am still working on the new album and till now it sounds ...really occult, aggressive and as always dark melodic." - Sakis Tolis

Well, I hope it's going to be like Sakis says.

Your opinions about the band?

There's still time to dig in to those earlier albums, so go do that!

I recently acquired Theagonia and its a tremendous album. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get, A Dead Poem next because I like all 3 songs I have of of it (A Dead Poem, Sorrowfull Farewell, Semigod)

Does the whole album match up to how good those songs are?

Definitely, if you like those songs you'll love the rest, because you don't even have Among Two Storms, which is one of my favourite songs by them.

I think my favourite albums in this order are Thy Mighty Contract, Non Serviam, A Dead Poem, and Theogonia. And if you really like the Rotting Christ style of "Thy Mighty Contract", I recommend you listen to Varathron's "Walpurgisnacht." They are from Greece also and often play locally with Rotting Christ, but at times I even enjoy that album MORE than Rotting Christ. I doubt you can find it anywhere to buy though, so try a download.

thanks a lot lot for the suggestions. I'll be sure to check out Varathron

Just as a note to this, you can buy the reissue of Walpurgisnacht from The End Records here. The website claims it's in stock as of today.

Can anyone give me a heads up on what this DVD is like? I ordered it but I'm still waiting for it to get here. So, I am anticipating how it might be. Judging by the songs they have on their setlist, it might be memorable.

The tracklisting is brilliant, but the quality of the dvd itself is just okay, nothing brilliant. I have the dvd with the two bonuss audio cd's which is the same concert plus seven bonus live songs. So what I do is, I watched the dvd once and now play the cd's instead.

I also ordered the 2 CDS + 2 DVDs disc. So you're saying the footage isn't very good?

I hope the audio CDs are also good, sonically.

We'll have a new RC album earlier next year, so that's good news. I hope they can still surprise me and captivate me, that's what I always hope a band can do.

If i like Rotting Christ...FUCK YEAH!!!!! they're one ov my favourite bands ever!!! They have their own, unique sound. I'm not going to call their music Black or Gothic-Black Metal, it's just "Rotting Christ Metal". That's why i like them most. They don't have any bad release but if i have to choose my favoutite albums then there are going to be Thy Mighty Contract, Non Serviam, Sanctus Diavolos. I also liked their latest album Theogonia. The whole album screams "WE ARE GREEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (and that's not bad ). From the first song till the last this album always takes me back to ancient Greece. And as for their forthcoming album i read that Sakis said that he doesn't want to do a Theogonia 2. He wants to do something from their first years, thing that i like. I'd like to listen to old-school occult-ish Rotting Christ again. But i trust Sakis. Whatever he's going to release i'm sure i'm going to like it, so i can't wait for the new album!!!!
Hail Rotting Christ!!!

I hadn't heard anything about their forthcoming album, so your words are promising. Although I think Rotting Christ's past 2 albums are excellent, it would indeed be interesting to hear the 'old school occult-ish' style again. Whether they can capture the same sense of otherworldly oddness, I'm not sure, but it will be interesting to find out.

I fuckin love this band! A few months ago I bought some more of their albums off ebay. Yeah their style is definitely unique that's for sure. They need to do a tour dammit! Maybe they'll do one for their upcoming album.

Well , Rotting Christ is one of my favorite bands of all time and I once had a talk with Sakis , he's really nice .
I was wating so badly for their latest release , once I got it I didn't like it at all ! . Yes , there're good riffs but the folk singing was fucking horrible .. it made the album really fucking bad .

I liked Rotting Christ a lot more before they went in the more gothic direction. Back when they were just plain old school greek black metal, that's when I think they really had something.

Yeah, some of the later stuff is nearly gothic metal.

Never listened to that album but the stuff I have heard were far away from being Gothic ... I was not aware that they went into a Gothic era

Nah, I'll just stick with Thy Mighty Contract and Non Serviam as well as the stuff on The Mystical Meeting. I try to ignore the gothic era completely.

From what I've heard (Which is litrtle so I might be wrong) that period stopped with Sanctus Diavolos. I don't care about the gothic influence though. I kind of like it but then again I'm not a fan of the band, I just like some of their stuff, I don't even have their music in my computer, probably I should buy some stuff
