Me personally enjoy almost every metal ballad. Those by Nightwish are great, Iron Maiden (or Bruce Dickinson self) have good ones, but by me is currently winning Manowar with Courage...how about you?

I don't know how the great and the good on this forum feel about Disturbed, but I have just come across their superb cover of The Sound Of Silence

Opeth - Benighted
Pantera - Hollow
Pantera - The Sleep

The three I've listed above leave me completely dumbfounded as to how in the fuck a human being could actually, physically do it. With Hollow it's not the technical aspect, but the sheer emotion behind it. You can take some classical master, I don't care who. Sure, every note will be perfection, but you WILL NOT achieve the gutwrenching emotion of that song. Can't do it.

Awesome selections. I could not agree more on Hollow. That;'s one of my favorite Pantera songs. The Sleep is also an underrated classic. I love that song. I'm going got add Children of the Damned by Iron Maiden, Anybody Listening by Queensryche, The Bleeding by FFDP (don''t hate on me, not a big FFDP fan but that song has a ton of emotion in it), Still Loving You by Scorpions, Under Your Spell by Primal Fear, In This River by Black Label Society. I could probably come up with a ton more but I have drinking to do.

I Remember You - Skid Row

Great song! Skid was one of my "gateway bands" into metal, so I'd say it counts. Closer to glam and hard rock, but I'm not unashamed of my eight year-old self (still able to hit all those high notes before the ol' balls dropped, lol)

..makes you wonder about Sebastian and how he sings that high, though.

We have secrets.

Anyway, they've got some songs which are definitely metal, like Slave to the Grind. Like I said, not all the songs are metal by any measure, but all the bands are metal by some measure, even if they're mainly hard rock. "I Remember You" is one of those classic power bands that often gets overlooked nowadays for some reason, but it was a hit back in the day. Not that I was alive back in the day, but you know.
