This Social Coil - After The Day Before

A great thing about the metal music landscape is the perpetual evolving nature of its creators and followers. So, while sitting at the Metal Storm round table, the topic of bands being "metal enough" was discussed.

Empyrium - The Turn Of The Tides

Have you ever waited at the shore and listened to the waves rolling in? There's something predictable in the familiarity of it, as you become accustomed to the sound of the movement of the water toward you and then away again. This is The Turn Of The Tides.

Krigblåst - Power Till Demise

Power Till Demise opens with an acoustic bit that sounds like a stripped version of Bathory's "Foreverdark Woods" and closes with a cover of "Transilvanian Hunger," but it's not a black or viking metal disc. Leave out a pretty negligible smattering of black-style chord progressions and you're left with crusty stuff almost exclusively.

Steel Prophet - Omniscient

Just look at the album artwork for Steel Prophet's Omniscient. Skulls, guns, and the word "steel" in the band name. It's nothing too surprising, as far as metal goes. In a lot of ways, the cover is sort of like the music itself.

Bands
Tales Of Dark...

Tales Of Dark... is a death doom metal band from Novi Sad (Serbia), which has been active for four years already. In that time the band has recorded a demo CD, played many interesting concerts (some of which have been very important for the band's further career), had appearances on several national radio and TV shows, and did a number of interviews published in various magazines, fanzines and webzines - all with the purpose of introducing the band to a wide national audience.

The mentioned demo CD, bearing the title U Kori Tame, was recorded in early 2003 in Novi Sad and it is the first studio recording of the band. It was well received by the audience and the webzines and fanzines, as well as some radio stations promoting it. The CD contains 4 songs (3 in English and 1 in Serbian), the total running time of which is 27 minutes and it represents the first period of the band's creative efforts. This material was done when the lineup was somewhat different than it is now; consequently, the genre of music was somewhat different - namely, the demo contains quite a bit of gothic metal influences alongside doom and death metal riffs.

Bands
Lustre

Since the fiery birth of its second wave in early '90s Scandinavia, black metal has sought to be a portal to the otherworld, the beyond - and often, beyond The Beyond. Divergent strains have certainly cropped up since, but Sweden's Lustre has long explored the hinterlands of the black metal imagination and consistently with breathtaking results. A lone dreamer, mainman Nachtzeit solidified his unique muse with his very first release, the Serenity EP in 2008, and never looked back once... only beyond.
