Xystus - Receiving Tomorrow 2004
01. Journey: Shadow Of Today 02. Into The Void 03. Elements Theme 04. Elements Of The Truth
Lost In Misery Trilogy: 05. I: A Tale Of The Heart 06. II: Will To Live on 07. III: Why Me?
08. Everlasting Burden 09. The Luring Red 10. Forgotten Years 11. Tide 12. The Prophecy 13. A Waste Of Compassion
The third of four releases from Electric Co is actually the most surprising one so far. Xystus and their Power/Progressive Metal is better than you would dear to hope.
Holland if famous for their (Beauty & Beast) Gothic, but lately there have come some other Metal as well, the strongest is Progressive, with bands like Sun Caged and Silent Edge.
But the major difference from for example, Sun Caged is that Xystus aren't as Neoclassic.
The members in Xystus started playing around 6 years ago, and today they are signed and have released their debut. That's strong for being a musician for such short time.
And the debut isn't only an album; it's a good first album, much better than expected.
There are no obvious influences audible on this album, but the music sometimes reminds me of a lot of bands, such as Symphony X, Kamelot & those two already mentioned.
But it's no rip-off from those bands, it's more using a little of that and mix it with our own, a very good thing to do in our overcrowded Metal society.
But the strongest card Xystus got is without doubt Bas Dolmans voice, not because he's a exceptional good singer, but because of his way of using his voice is incredible, to understand how I mean, just listen to the ballad, "A Tale of the Heart", in which he demonstrate exactly what I said here.
Other songs that I think stand above the rest is "The Luring Red" with its grand piano "chase" and the heavy creation "The Prophecy".
But there aren't any really bad track, but I sense that some of these are fillers, they sounds much to alike each other, but I won't blame them for it, the album is still very strong for a debut.
So if you're into the Power/Progressive Metal I recommend you to give Xystus a chance, they might not the biggest surprise of the year, but "Receiving Tomorrow" is strong enough to be worth buying.
Check Out: "A Tale of the Heart", "The Luring Red", "Forgotten Years", "The Prophecy" & "A Waste of Compassion".
