After an impressive first demo in 2001, and after the signature for a first record deal last year with Oaken Shield, the Black Metal subdivision of the French Adipocere Records, Evohé comes with its first release, "Tellus Mater". If the Demo, even if it was already easy to see the potentiality of the band and its own personality, was influenced by the Scandinavian Black Metal scene this time, no doubt that we're in front of some "True" French Black metal in the spirit of a Nehëmah. You know what to do now?

"Tellus Mater" will be a really good surprise for all the ones who like the French Black Metal scene. Like Nehëmah, Evohé chose to play a classic "true" Black Metal. Don't expect any forms of symphonic music in this album because this is only an efficient and powerful Black cold as ice. With fast double bass drums tempos, aggressive riffs and vocals, I also enjoy this album especially in reason of the excellent ambiances on each track. It's really dark and pernicious and I'm sure, even if I'm not a Black Metal specialist, that many fans will agree if I say that a lot of Black Metal combos seem to forget those kind of ambiances today.

Height tracks, 45 mins of music with a good production (note that the cover and artworks are excellent), "Tellus Master" is a really good album of Black Metal even if on the other hand this is not the most surprising release of the year. But don't misunderstand me, we're in front of a good album that the fans of "real" Black Metal will probably love. Actually my only regret comes from the lyrics, because I'm sorry but I can't stand Satanist lyrics (like religious ones in general actually) and I think that some black metal bands should try to avoid falling in the cliché. But evidently and on this point, this is just a matter of taste and opinion, nothing more?

I suppose that you understand that you will have to avoid forgetting this album because for a first release this is already really promising. Only the future will say if Evohé will become a leader of the French Black Metal scene, but this "Tellus Mater" gives me some good hopes for the band. If you want real black, don't miss this one?
