Blame it on Melodic Death

Does the world really need more Melodic Death Metal bands? If you think there are few of them, maybe you've been living under a rock or you just entered the Internet for the first time in your life.

Does anybody know who's George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher? Yep, he's the singer of Cannibal Corpse (almost legendary Death Metal band), my guess is that he was quite bored with the brutality and viciousness of their other band and decided to embark on a more melodic project. Paths Of Possession is the name, and they play Melodic Death Metal but without any reference to the Swedish school, hence, this is American Death Metal.

The riffs and compositions are catchy, I can't deny that, Corpsegrinder does a good work in the vocal department as always, songs have some breaks with soloing, marked riffs and some brutal sections here and there. The whole mix is not that original, but really, have you heard any original Melodic Death Metal lately?

This album is a fine listen, it has its moments, sadly they decided to use one of the most stagnant genres at the moment. So the blame should go for the band or for the genre? Beats me. The thing I know is, if you like Melodic Death Metal in any form or shape, you'll like this surely, if you (like me) are still searching for the next big thing in Metal, look elsewhere

Compared to it's successor, I find this album too soft But it really has some nice songs, like the opening track and Butcher's Bargain. I would give 65/100 points to it
