Krux - Krux review
01. Black Room
06. Enigma EZB
08. Evel Rifaz
We speak 2002 as Leif Edling (Candlemass), Mats Levén (Therion), Jörgen Sandström (ex-Grave), Fredrik Åkesson (ex-Arch Enemy), Peter Stjärnvind (Entombed) and Carl Westholm (ex-Candlemass) decide to team up. Krux is born. Usually with line-ups like these things either go horribly wrong or go perfectly well and masterpieces are created. What goes without doubt though, is that everyone in Metalland wants to hear it.
Since this is mainly Leif Edling's band the style they play is crushing clean Doom Metal. Of course the music is similar to Candlemass' music, but there are also some other influences present, like the very catchy guitar sound.. It wouldn't surprise me at all if these influences would have been brought in by Jörgen Sandström, ex-bandmember of Death 'n' Roll act Entombed (among others). Alongside those catchy melodies there is epic riffing, clean vocals and heavy bass. Besides this range of influences, the strength of this album is definitely its consistency. None of the album tracks really standout in a good or bad way. All of the songs are very well performed Doom hyms. The only two exceptions being "Siberia", a slow and ballad-like song with whispered cold vocals. Personally I find this a welcome breath of fresh air from the crushing heaviness. The other exception is the bass solo called "Evel Rifaz". Edling makes his bass sound like a chainsaw and he grinds the listener into tiny little pieces. Also a very enjoyable and welcome interlude. Then the proceeds and with the song "Lunochod". There are some ambient sounding soundscapes and an incredibly catchy riff near the end of the song.
So if I haven't made it clear enough already: If you are a fan of traditional Doom Metal get this album from this all-star line-up for sure! You won't be disappointed with this solid piece of Metal.
The time that flies the death the flowers. Dreams that become my own cross
