As you all know, Edguy will soon release their new album, "Hellfire Club" (Already reviewed here on Metal Storm).
But before we'll see the album in our local cd store, Edguy will release an EP, "King of Fools", and it's that EP I now shall talk about.
But it's no usual EP Edguy are releasing, no a title track from the album and then some b-sides, no, this is 5 very good songs, 5 songs of very high quality. But it's not like what we later shall hear on the full-length album, this is something more soft then those, more like from the era around "Theatre of Salvation" and "Mandrake".
The EP starts with the title song "King of Fools", that I wrote something like this about in the review of "Hellfire Club"; "It's a quite strange tune, at least the part before the chorus, with a nice doze of Heaviness.
It's the mid-tempo song; the chorus part is so much Edguy. It's a good choice for the E.P. even if it's not one of the most usual Edguy tunes." And I still think that is a good explanation of the song.
New Age Messiah - This is a very usual Edguy I have to say, I can really hear that it's should fit almost any previous Edguy album. It's maybe the weakest song on the EP, but it's no bad song. It's almost like a cliché, and it's remind me of "Wings of a Dream" mixed with some bad language.
The Savage Union - Here we have a really, really good Edguy tune, the one that's closest to the new Edguy sound, it's raw, it's Melodic and it's so damn good.
The chorus is amazing, so unbelievable good and catchy. The best song of the EP.
Holy Water - This song got the best riffs of the EP, and it's mixed with some very emotional lyrics and melodies, with make's it's almost a little sad. Once again, the old Edguy sound comes, but in the chorus it's very unlike anything Edguy ever done.
A very amazing song that you really should hear, if you're into Edguy.
Life And Time of a Bonus Track - All of you that know Edguy, know that Tobi got a very god sense of humour, and believe me, he don't save anything of it, not even on a five-track EP.
If I say like this, have you ever wondered how a life as a Bonus Track (!) can be? Well, then I let Mr. Sammet explain that for you.
"Artists wrote rock n' roll history, concentrated on an album so strong.
But business claimed limited editions, insisting on additional songs"…//…
"I'm a bonus track on my way to Japan, and I'm gonna be spread on the internet.
Yeah I'm a bonus track, to Brazil and back, enjoying worldwide fame"
"They'll screw the industry, pay no royalty
Burn me on CD, all illegally
Chinese bootlegs, Russian piracy
Cutthroat Germans, they all copy me!"
Well, I guess you see Tobi's humour there, right?
This is absolutely the best way to waste your money; I can almost assure you that you won't get an EP like this from another band. No other band will give you 5 songs of this quality.
Favourite Songs: ALL, it would be malfeasance not to price them all.
