"From Ashes To..." is the second demo of a young French combo called In Trails. I didn't have the chance to listen to their first demo but when I see the quality of this second CD, I think that we're in front of a promising Metal act. Sure "From Ashes To..." is not revolutionary but the guys plays good Metal at least!

"From Ashes To..." is a new release of melodic extreme Metal. Between Death and Thrash, this album features three really nice songs (plus an intro). The voice of the singer is aggressive not really Death or Black but you see what I mean, our singer screams here and does it well. The drums are a real machine and produce big blasts on all the three songs, you just have to add big thrashy (melodic) riffs and you can understand how it sounds. I cannot say that it sounds like the last In Flames, it's a lot more aggressive and Thrash but on the other hand it really sounds "Metalcore" and this is not super original. In my opinion the band lacks a bit of maturity but I'm quite sure that they already have all what they need to produce something big. If they can add a bit of craziness I think that they will succeed to release a great first album.

The main problem of "From Ashes To..." comes from its really big similarity with a ton of other Metal bands. One more time this new combo plays melodic Death / Thrash Metal, catchy as hell on a side but really trendy on the other. Though at least our guys play it well and we have real technical guitars soli, something that you cannot find in all the new Gothenburg Death Metal bands which release their legions of albums nowadays. With a great production (and a really classy cover art) this demo gives me good hopes, and if the guys find a way to create something a bit more original and personal in the future it should be perfect!

"From Ashes To..." is a good release of groovy Thrash / Death Metal which is just a bit too much influenced by the trendy In Flames and all their mates. But really I have the feeling that In Trails can do good things so let's wait their first album but if they follow this road, keep the good work and find something to give a real personality to their music they will become a lot more famous. Wait and see but "From Ashes To..." is a promising demo so I will keep an eye on In Trails!
