Bringing It All Together: 2013

2013 has come and gone. I just wanted to share some of my favourite albums from the year, as there have been several strong albums that have creeped into my favourite albums. If you enjoyed my "Crushing?" list, you may also enjoy what is on here. The albums are in order and the descriptions are generally for fun. I've brought it down to a Top 25.

Vermis on top, and deservedly so. Generally agreed with most placings. Nice list man.
You brought Stomach Earth to my attention. I'm expecting some good quality funeral doom to end my year with.

Oh, and btw, make that "Closest Thing I'll probably get to having three Ulcerate albums in the same year", coz if you haven't checked out Altars - Paramnesia yet, please do so asap.

Thanks

I had monumental, colossal, [insert adjective here] expectations for Vermis, and it didn't disappoint. Hands down the best album I heard all year.

I was on Sputnik's list of Top 200 surfing around and saw it on there at a fairly high station, so I gave it a spin. The vocals were a little?odd. Somewhere between colosseum and shape of despair probably, keyboards were definitely shape of despair though.

Oh goodie! I will do that as soon as I can, because I love the sound Ulcerate brings forth.

While admittedly I may have gone a bit overboard with that statement (coz Altars is much closer to Gorguts and Portal than it is to Ulcerate), I can't recommend the album enough. In its own right, a world [b]eater.

Well those are still two good bands to be compared to, so I will still listen with enthusiasm. Thanks for the recommendation!

That's a fine looking list
I really need to revisit some of the albums in here: Officium Triste, Procession (been a little while since I last played it), Oranssi Pazuzzu and Inter Arma.
Will check Agrimonia and Blood Red Throne, loved this year's Death Metal hopefully those won't be an exception

Thanks for checking out my list! Several albums similar to yours I believe haha.

Officium Triste's album wasn't particularly heavy, but I just enjoyed every damn note of that album. It just sounded really refreshing to me. It wasn't an overly oppressive listen (similar to Funeralium), which was a nice change of pace.

Procession's new one was great, but it didn't have that "little bit extra" for me to drive it up higher on the list. Couldn't but my finger on it, but it was just missing something.

Only issue with the Oranssi Pazuzu album was I wanted more haha.

Inter Arma received crazy praise on Metalsucks, so I had high expectations, but it didn't quite live up. Still really good thug.

Agrimonia was on a couple of the top lists on Metalsucks (Grim Kim's #1 actually who has pretty good taste in music). My description may be off a bit, but the album is excellent (in my opinion)

Blood Red Throne isn't revolutionary, but it hit fasts and heavy.

Why have Richard Harrow from BE as the photo of this list?

Thank you very much for this recommendation, I have a feeling it's going to end up on the list (very high).

Reminds me somewhat of Mitochondrion. Either way, excellent album.

I noticed the same thing. Rather strange if you ask me.

Do I realise I'm quoting myself right now? Yes... yes, I do.

Richard Harrow is my favourite character from Boardwalk Empire, and there is a pretty important scene in the season 4 finale involving Richard, which I will not say as it contains spoilers.

Ah I see. I started watching season 4 yesterday so I'm curious of what you're talking about. And yeah, Richard Harrow is one of my favourite characters as well. He's just way more interesting than most other characters, not to mention pretty badass (end of season 3 and season 4).
