I actually only have 2 original of them And even those two I wouldn't consider essential

Ya, when I think essential I don't think albums as ... limited as this make the cut. There's nothing from the '80s, a lot of genres left out, and a lot of classics overlooked - not to mention a lot of non-classics that made the cut in the first place.
The Shape 1973 - 14.08.2011 at 21:11
These lists are getting tedious. I know its summer and things are a bit slow, but ....yawn.

Nothing against the OP, its just these lists in general are only true to an individual and their opinion.
BeastOfMetal456 - 15.08.2011 at 18:19
Nice list. But you might call it Top 10 Metal albums, not essential metal albums.
Kass - 20.08.2011 at 13:56
Well.. the only essential album for me here is "At The Heart Of Winter" which is in the last place, but it's your list, your rules.
Warman - 08.01.2012 at 15:41
Great albums but the only essential one for me is "Hatebreeder". One of the albums which changed me and an important piece of my early teenage years.
Mad Arab666 - 21.02.2012 at 00:40
I only got draconian and immortal
Nosurper - 07.05.2012 at 03:25
Sadly, I have not heard one of these albums
Windir - 10.07.2012 at 21:11
I own 6 of them but only consider Artnor essential
Windir - 22.01.2013 at 17:12
I own 60% of this list. Arntor essential...? I would say legendary!

While Arntor is my favorite on the list I don't think I'd call it "essential"
Erik M. - 05.08.2013 at 17:31
Okay, I disagree with the title of this list... why not call it "My Top 10 Metal Albums"? Anyway, still a nice list and I'm going to check out most of the ones I don't know yet.
flightoficarus - 11.12.2014 at 23:57
You had me at Windir. I was scrolling through the top lists and saw their cover art pop up. Stopped. Good show, sir. The rest, I'd have to argue with some of the choices. I can take or leave Bodom. With Oden on our Side or The Avenger are both superior to VTW, Turis Fratyr is a bit better than Sagas, though I enjoy both. I'll take any Moonsorrow album prior to V. I really think V is boring and pretentious. The rest is pretty good. Filosofem and Heart of Winter are both for sure entries.
Dima - 12.12.2014 at 16:15
If you're just going off the title, the word 'essential' is pretty ambiguous. Some could view it as high quality albums while others could view it as albums that defined/influenced a genre/period. Some nice stuff on that list regardless of the title.
deadone - 12.12.2014 at 16:17
I like 1 of them (CoB).
essbee - 11.05.2015 at 16:58
As much as I like this list, I can't help but feel weird when I see bands like Immortal, Moonsorrow and Burzum along CoB and Equilibirum

But that Equilibrium album has some very unique and special stuff, but has a too simple structure for me. Except Mana!
Angel N. - 11.05.2015 at 19:13
What's essential about these albums ?
Karlabos - 11.05.2015 at 19:18
It's essential that you look at them and wonder whether they're essential or not
Angel N. - 11.05.2015 at 19:22
The only essential album in terms of musical value and having an effect on the scene I think is the Burzum album otherwise none of these 10 albums have anything essential in them, I am really amazed that how many people gave this such bad list a thumb up !

As if they didn't even take a look at what they're giving thumb up, I'm specially disappointed by the guys such as Erik and R'Vannith, Diverge...

Ever thought that they liked the list? And therefore gave it a thumbs up. You don't think these 10 are essential (neither do I btw) but the list maker considers them essential, simple as that.

Like ever thought that's also my point ? I meant why someone like Erik who is so into making great lists found this one deserve to get a thumb up. It's not a good list at all, essential in what way ? how? that's the reason so many times I noticed that Erik gave actually thumb down to some lists. Whatever !

what's the need to use such language? There are nicer structures in English.

Essential to the maker of this list. What's so hard to understand about that?
You don't think it is a good list, that does not make it a bad list. Other people thought it was a good list, so, live with it. Different people, different tastes.
Zaphod - 12.05.2015 at 19:32
Can we just get over how awful other people's tastes are and move on with our lives?
Angel N. - 13.05.2015 at 00:19
To make it again clear I'm not talking shit about people's tastes, but well whatever, I quite !
Guib - 15.05.2015 at 23:11
I don't think me and Carl Berg have the same concept of what's Essential hahaha.

I don't wanna sound repetitive.. but eh. Where's the THRASH man. lol

Thumbs down? I wish that were possible.

Seriously though, I'm not exactly sure why I +1'd this list. I think 4 albums on it are awesome (Windir, Moonsorrow, Draconian and Immortal), but that's it. Haven't heard 4 out of 10 albums.

I understand Marcel's point, but yours too. The title of the list is too objective. +1 removed (yeah, dick-ish move, but I simply disagree with the title and only like 50% of the albums on the list, and I also dislike it when a list creator doesn't respond to the comments on his own list...).

Fair enough. But I meant an actual thumbs down just like what a thumbs up is.
