Best Of 1988… The Year That Defined My Metal Life

While 1987 woke me up to metal and I hoovered up the likes of Iron Maiden, Metallica and Helloween’s keepers, 1988 was my metal heyday and a year that produced albums that would still dominiate my top 20 list today. Lots of power metal and plenty of Noise Records!

1.Manowar - Kings Of Metal
2.Scanner - Hypertrace
3.Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part II
4.Candlemass - Ancient Dreams
5.Riot - ThunderSteel

Yngwie Malmsteen Albums Ranked

I read the phenomenal unofficial biography As Above, So Below by Anders Tengner during the summer. It's based on interviews with the musicians and others who been close to Yngwie. It maps out Yngwies insane behaviour during the years, the failed commercial success but also the dedication and love for the music he become a pioneer in. I can't recommend it enough, it's a both fascinating and depressing read. So what better time than to listen through his discography?

1.Yngwie Malmsteen - Trilogy
2.Yngwie Malmsteen - Rising Force
3.Yngwie Malmsteen - Marching Out
4.Yngwie Malmsteen - Odyssey
5.Yngwie Malmsteen - Fire And Ice

Mighty Heavy Metal Albums

Some time ago I made a list for heavy metal albums I enjoyed the most. I got it cleaned up after ripening my tastes.I also tried to organize the list a bit, in subcategories. There is one album per band (choices were hard sometimes), with no strict order, but my favorite albums are usualy on top.

2020 EDIT:
I like heavy metal with atmoshpere, with melody, and ideally it should be some kind of gate to a fantastic universe. I don't care about modern HM with a shiny production and simplistic riffs. I don't care obscure occult band with horrendous prod and no musical ideas. Here's the list of what I consider classics of the genre, pinnacle of dreamy, groovy, beautiful and well composed oldschool heavy metal

1.Judas Priest - Sad Wings Of Destiny
2.
3.Angra - Angels Cry
4.
5.Fates Warning - No Exit

Vocal Affairs

Sove very good releases have been created without the inclusion of the vocalist that a band is famous for having; the one everyone thinks of when the group is mentioned. Sometimes these bands surprise us with a well-known replacement, a fill-in, or a remaining band member. These releases are more than worthy of listening to, liking, loving, or even (in some cases) proclaiming superiority over the regular line-up. This was put together quick, and will be tweaked and fine-tuned as time goes on.

1.The Crown - Crowned In Terror
2.Bloodbath - Nightmares Made Flesh
3.Judas Priest - Jugulator
4.Pyramaze - Immortal
5.Black Sabbath - Born Again

Top 30 Instrumental/Guitar Heroes Albums Of All Time

Welcome to the sphere my friends. I'm talking about albums made by Guitar Heroes, with extreme creativity and skills. As you know, this is not the biggest musical genre because there are many amazing guitar players, but not that much amazing Guitar Heroes albums which deserves a true attention in their wholeness. For the little story of my life, I used to begin listening to metal with Yngwie, Joe and Steve Vai in 2005 or something like that. And when I bought my first electric guitar in 2005, I first started to try Vai's songs while you all know EVERY beginer starts playing with Nirvana or Red Hot Chili Peppers
Anyway, I hope you will enjoy my playlist. These albums are great to me, and it's always a pleasure to listen to them so many years after. I admit that GH albums are not my first preocupation today (if you take a look to my other lists, you will see), but this is the source of my passion, and each time I discover a good piece of them I bring it here, when I think about it. Enjoy

1.Yngwie Malmsteen - Rising Force
2.Cacophony - Speed Metal Symphony
3.Jeff Loomis - Zero Order Phase
4.Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien
5.Jason Becker - Perpetual Burn
