Guide To First Wave Of Black Metal This list is a guide to the first wave of Black Metal.
Releases here are considered to be a part of the first wave or they stylistically are similar to the first wave bands. Some releases are of thrash/death bands but please note that at the time first wave wasn't really homogeneous style and that those bands are included cause they were influence to the bands that will later form Second wave. Have in mind that First wave ceased to exist somewhere around 1987-1989. Releases are ordered by release year. Have fun!

Kvlt Madness Presents: An Intro To WAR METAL! So, What is WAR METAL?
Many define the micro-genre of "War Metal" as a chaotic blend of Thrash/Grindcore riffing infused with Black Metal Ideals, voxs, and lo-fi attitude. It can also lean more towards the way of Death as well. Many of the bands take heavy influence form the genre of Bestial Black Metal. When it comes to "extreme" genres of music, it doesn't get much more brutal or lo-fi as these bands...which is just the way I love it! Dirty and RAW! They rely heavily on the themes of despair, Satan, tyranny, death, nihilism, goat heads, gas masks, social unrest, nuclear holocaust, and obviously war.

Screechy Evil Felonious Blitzing Metal The concept of this list is not exceptionally well defined, but I'm circling a basic concept of lean, fast-paced metal with high-pitched vocals that tend to be on the harsher side. The album that inspired the compilation was Evil Invaders' Shattering Reflection, so that can serve as a template; not everything here necessarily sounds exactly like that, but it's all somewhere in the blackened speed/power-thrash/particularly aggressive heavy metal continuum. I'm going entirely by what feels right to me and not necessarily what makes sense on paper, so don't hold this to a rigid standard of consistency.
Here are a few individual tracks that I also thought fit the mood nicely: Accept - "Fast As A Shark" Accept - "Fight It Back" 3 Inches Of Blood - "Leather Lord" Judas Priest - "Ram It Down" Judas Priest - "Hard As Iron" Satan - "Trial By Fire" Crisix - "Ultra Thrash" Fifth Angel - "In The Fallout"

My 20 Favorite Black Metal Albums This is a list of my 20 favorite BM albums ever. Apparently Mystifier and Moonblood are too kvlt to be on Metal Storm at this time, but both are incredibly fucking awesome. Moonblood played Epic Black Metal and are the undisputed gods of horrible lo-fi production, with one of their rehearsals rumored to have even been recorded in a bathroom. Mystifier is another quite good BM band, who are from South America and play in a similar vein to that of Sarcófago, old Beherit, and old Sepultura, and is some of the most evil material I have listened to in a long time.

Thrash Effect Like my other genre-based lists, this exists purely for my own organizational purposes and not to provide a definitive statement about or guidebook to the thrash genre. I've folded some speed metal and other occasional outliers into this list, maybe a few not-so-thrash albums by otherwise-thrash bands, since they're close enough and I wasn't going to make a separate list.

THE METAL BIBLE Part II: The 80s Welcome to what I consider the "1980s Metal Bible" or in other words, a list of records of various genres in the arrays of Metal and Hard Rock that I deem essential or at least very recommended to listeners of hard and heavy music. In this second part we conquer the mighty decade that many deem as the classic decade of Metal. This and the other parts of this journey through the decades may be a very overwhelming list. I essentially try to collect all albums in the History of Metal that strike me as worthwhile. May this be a guideline for people that seek for an entrance to a particular genre or certain bands. In no means I am saying, that this list is indisputable by any means. I consider these my personal picks for albums that should be listened to by die-hard metal fans at least once. Hopefully you can discover some new music or relate with my picks. If I missed something that you would include in such a list, please tell me in the form of a comment. Enjoy! \,,/
