Next time a newbie to (Traditional) Doom Metal asks me what the genre is about, my answer shall be confined to one mere word: Warning. As his or her face will doubtlessly bear a puzzled look, should I really answer in such fashion, my patient person shall have to repeat and explain that answer. And I will gladly do so, as everyone that has but the slightest interest in Warning is my friend.

24.04.2010 Warning's Watching From A Distance is a Traditional Doom metal album. Correction - Watching From A Distance is one of the best albums Traditional Doom has to offer. Five songs clocking in at nearly fifty minutes of emotionally draining, heartwrenching metal. Grey and bleak and with a devastating vocal performance to boot - a must-check.

Rating: 10 I really tried liking the vocals but I couldn't ... then I tried overlooking them but I also couldn't . it is just annoying , but as I always say maybe I wasn't in the mood so I will try and give it another chance when the right time comes

I just have to say that 40 Watt Sun's debut helped me get into this masterpiece

Have you even pondered that this album really does suck for most of people?

Have you pondered the fact that these two comments make little sense in conjunction with one another?
Vonpire - 31.08.2011 at 16:42
Rating: 6 It depends... If you think 65 people is most of people... yes.

Otherwise, no.

I should have said... ever on mstorm.

well, that's your opinion on the album.
Fine by me you dislike it.
I can understand people can't stand the vocals due to its emotional content (or as some would say whining). But calling them bad is off the mark because not a single false note is hit

But I find it strange you say most people hate the album when in fact it is deemed one of the best doom albums ever by people who play doom music or are fans of the entire genre (so that includes trad doom, epic doom, funeral doom, gothic doom, death doom etc etc).
Vonpire - 31.08.2011 at 17:10
Rating: 6 Well Marcel, on earth there are millions and millions of people. You put that people listening to this and 99,9% of it would turn it off after 1 minute. That could be applied to most of metal also...

To me it sucks, glad you got it and didn't bitch about it.

I don't follow trends I follow my own tastes. Period.

I was extremely quiet until now. Opinions are opinions and that's why I try to stay away from opinions which I don't share.
But that comment I just quoted is bullshit.

How is this music trendy? Doom metal as a whole is probably the least trendy metal subgenre.

Well... Candlemass basically pioneered by themselves that kind of doom metal and their debut was a big "heads up" to anyone back in those days. So yeah, a perfect recept for a timeless classic that still sounds awesome today (omf and live it sounds soooooooo good).
Ceddybu - 22.01.2012 at 01:06
Listening to the first track... This shit has some power behind it.

Vocals aren't bad either, seems to be a main flaw to a lot of people but I think they're great.

Rating: 9 Been quite a while since I actually listened to this. Getting home drunk like I have and putting it on teaches me it's still the greatest doom album ever. 6.28 onwards on Footprints is testament to that (build up a requirement).

Rating: 10 The lyrics are enough to give me chills. Fucking amazing. I think it's an absolute shame most people in my age group don't seem to connect with/enjoy this wonderful music. Wallowing in despair FTFW.

Anyone who can't relate to these themes needs to start living.

the main gripe he has with the Kreation Records rerelease is the shoddy quality of the artwork and some other stuff that has been added on the cover such as a thankslist drawn up by Miskatonic Foundation

I think he is also annoyed that no one in the band was given any input as well, that would be the major piss off for me.

That too, but remember that the guy running Miskatonic Foundation is his cousin Rich Walker. So, I am guessing he is not willing to start some row with direct relatives over that.

Rating: 9 40 Watt Sun is also a really nice band, but personally I would love to see more music under this moniker as well!

The lyrics and vocals are like 11/10! Such an emotional voice. Just brilliant. It can get a bit to samey for me though. It requires a certain mood, that's sure.

Rating: 10 I've been trying to decide on which album I thought had the strongest vocal performance ever. This won it for me
Aristarchos - 28.02.2013 at 18:44
Rating: 9 Great slow doom with so much emotions, although I find it a little bit too monotone, and a bit too short with five songs. But especially the first two songs are so great.
