The Canadian province of Quebec is the land of several excellent Death Metal bands such as Cryptopsy and Kataklysm. Now you can extend that list to another pearl, Moonlyght. But unlike the aforementioned bands, the musicians from Moonlyght play a complex progressive mix of Melodic Death, Black, Folk, Gothic even Power Metal with a large symphonic component, which so far was why a band like Vintersorg topped lots of other bands. Moonlyght is another serious challenger to doing that and the well-entitled debut-album "Progressive Darkness" is there to prove me right.

I really like this, it's good all the way through. Definitely at least a nine. Has the cool parts of power metal without being overly cheesy (but borders on it so be careful if you despise power metal). Lots of harsh vocals really help to even out the power metally parts. They drummer hits the cymbals a bit more than average which I'm a big fan of. It reminds me a bit of their fellow Quebecians (?) Quo Vadis who released Day Into Night in 2000 (also an amazing album). If you like symphonic metal you will definitely get into this. I easily like this more than Haggard although it's quite a different kind of symphonic metal, it's much more upbeat. There's a prominent folky element as well. There is plenty of eclectic instrumentation going on and a female vocalist adds a nice variety to a few tracks. Thanks to the 20 people who got this into the top albums list.
