Amsvartner - Biography

Biography

Until I'll put up the official biography I will tell you some words about our nice little group!

First of all, the name Amsvartner is taken from the northern mythology. It might seem strange, because our lyrics aren't about that at all. Anyway we thought it soundet cool some 5 years ago. Now we are kind of fed up with people always asking, what did you say? What was the name again? Well we have considered changing it but, we never found any good replacement, and a lot of people know us by that name. So.... we're still Amsvartner I guess.

Me (Jonathan) and the twins (Albin and Alfred) started the band in 1993 (in the area of Umeå, Sweden). In 94' Daniel Nygaard joined the band, and we got more serios and played gigs with bands like Dark Tranquillity, Lobotomy and some local bands. In 1995 the twins elder brother Marcus joined us as a vocalist. The reason was that we all were fans of his band Disorge and we really liked his style of singing. So together with him, we recorded our first demo, called
The following year we recorded our second demo "Underneath the thousand years gate". And with that one we got our record deal with Blackend/PHD

In 1997 we released our first MCD called " The trollish mirror". This record is our extremest release so far, but not to original in my opinion. Fast, melodic death/black metal, and you can easily here that we were influenced by bands like Dissection and other Gothenburg bands. The people who has listened to this one might get a smaller chock when they listen to our following album.

In 1998 we were busy "finding" our own sound, we rehersed a lot and started to jam a lot. In august we recorded our first fullenght album called "Dreams" and YOU can find it in your local recordstore right now. Well it kind of sounds different from our earlier releases, in my opinion in a better way. The reason for this "evolutionary jump" as some people call it, is that we wrote the material for "The trollish mirror" in 1996 and when we recorded "Dreams", two years had passed and our influences had changed a lot. Everyone in the group became more and more openminded to experiment with ideas we never tried out before. Compare the albums and you will understand what I am talking about! Our progress is very natural if you see the two demos and the MCD as the ground for what we builded up the following two years, wich resulted in "Dreams"!

Worth to say is that Daniel (guitar) left the group after doing two gigs with us after the recording-session of "Dreams". The reason was that he wanted to focus on his biggest interest, to become a soundengineer! Shortly after Kalle Lundin (an old friend of Albin and Alfred) helped us out as a second guitarist for some time. We did two gigs together with him and we also wrote som new material with him as well. For some reason Kalle couldn't stay so he was replaced by Mikko Savela.
