Biography

While being involved separately in several musical projects ? Metal bands, musicals, plays, and session work ? my brother Eirik Krokfjord and myself, on vocals and guitars, respectively, had for a long time been thinking of doing something together. That was late 2005, and as I already had a good deal of music finished, the search for band members was on.

Bass player Ove Eeg, with whom we both had worked on several earlier occasions, was soon contacted, and when drummer Carl Engstrøm was found on the Internet, Sarpedon was born. After recording our first demo ? creatively entitled Demo 2006 ? the music began calling for a second guitar player. Such was found in the shape of Espen Langnes ? a young man with some mean boots and some truly shredding fingers. They both are out of the band now, due personal and band reasons. We wish them god luck in their new, shredding progging groowing band, CEO.

In 2007 Eirik was replaced with our current frontman, the 6 ft 5, 210 lbs monster Stan Sylvander. Sporting a 4 octave range and a stage presence to die for he fits the band perfectly, and his distinctive vocal style further enhances the Sarpedon's sound.

The band name ? taken from an episode of MacGyver (what hidden secrets cannot be discovered when watching daytime television?) ? inherits from both Greek mythology and biology, being both the name of one of Zeus's sons and the Latin name of a particularly beautiful butterfly species.

It's easy to go overboard with big words when describing one's own music, but drawing influences from Symphony X, Kamelot, and Savatage; Emperor, Pantera, and Nevermore; Malmsteen, Queen, and the Beatles; Sarpedon's style is a heavy, groovy mix of melody, flair and pure old-fashioned Heavy Metal.
