Biography
Memoira began its journey in the beginning of 2007, originally formed by the two guitarists Jani Haanpää and Marko Heurlin in 2001. They gathered together a group of various musicians who had played in different bands.
In 2008, Memoira released their self-titled debut album. A music video was made for the song "Liberation".
In 2010, Memoira parted ways with lead singer Jemina Pitkälä. Not long after Jemina's departure, the band welcomed in new lead singer Kati Rantala. Also in 2010 the band released three demos; "Curtain Call", "Puppeteer" and "Nightingale", to their MySpace page.
Memoria entered the studio to start recording their sophomore album in May 2011. Recording wrapped up in March 2012. After many delays the new album was officially announced on October 4, 2013. The album titled "Memories, Tragedies, Masquerades" will be released digitally on November 1, 2013, with a physical release later on with an unknown release date. The band also announced that they will not be releasing "Memories, Tragedies, Masquerades" through a record label, instead choosing to self-release it.
After 4-years in the darkness, the Finnish symphonic prog-metal band MEMOIRA is active again as a five-piece and releasing a new single and music video! Celebrating their 10-year anniversary of releasing their self-titled debut album, and the 5th anniversary of their sophomore album, MEMORIES, TRAGEDIES, MASQUERADES. Original members and main composers Jani Puusa (Guitars) and Lassi Nuolivaara (Keys & Piano) felt the time was right for a comeback. The band has completed their line-up with a new drummer, bassist and a new vocalist. Annika Jalkanen, mostly known from the band FOR SELENA AND SIN is the new vocalist and front of the band. Niko Laaksonen (RANDY RECKLESS, BLOWTORCH, RORSCHACH) will take the duties on bass and the drum kit throne belongs to Matti Virtanen (DARK TONE COMPANY, CONCRETE WORDS, ANOMALY). The new single "DAWN OF TIME" is the first release with the new line-up and will be available online through Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, Amazon, Google Play and other streaming devices. The band is also working on a new material and plans to hit the stage as soon as possible.
"Our music has always been very dear to our heart. And the support that we get from our fans till this day is what made us think many times: Should we continue to make some new music, a new album perhaps? We discussed about coming together, but there are things in life, responsibilities and matters that come before being in a band. Therefore we decided to move on as a five-piece. We still have the utmost respect and love for all the former band members. Now that all the pieces are together, we can now continue to pursue the magic that was Memoira and still is today. Dawn Of Time is a perfect fit to be released as a first single that carries on with the traditional Memoira sound."
MEMOIRA's self-titled debut album was released in August 2008 via Nightmare Records. The sophomore album MEMORIES, TRAGEDIES, MASQUERADES was released November 1, 2013.
The band's sound was previously described by the label as "epic melancholic metal that has progressive and gothic orchestral parts." According to Nightmare, MEMOIRA carries on "in the fashon of bands such as NIGHTWISH, EPICA, KAMELOT, WITHIN TEMPTATION, EVANESCENCE and LACUNA COIL."
