Biography

The origins of coRPus lie in June 2002, when founding members Benno and Steve decided to do something different in the music scene. Their musical background contained a lot of variety; going from dance over new wave to progressive and metal. Combining these genres of music was going to be difficult, though very challenging.

coRPus played its first gig on the 23rd of August 2002 at MusiCafé in Leuven with Pascale (female vocals), Benno (male vocals and bass), Tom (guitar) en Steve (drums). Between mid 2002 and late 2003, there were several line-up changes and the band even continued as a trio (Benno-Tom-Steve) for several months. Luckily, in October 2003, they found a second guitar player in the person of Wouter. Gigs became more frequent and in December 2003, coRPus recorded its first 5-track demo "EMS,MF" at the Second Test Recording Studios in Kortrijk.

2004: The demo was very enriching to the band and they were looking for more opportunities to play live. On the other hand, the demo was also quite dissatisfactory and no longer representative to the music they wrote at that time so the band decided to home-record a new demo during the summer. Unfortunately, recordings were stopped after some time. In September of that same year, the band approached Yann to join on bass. Benno would now be able to focus exclusively on his vocals. The songs that were written from then on were of a much higher level and coRPus was pushing itself to the limit.

In the beginning of 2005, the song writing process had the highest priority. The quintet was slowly putting together a concept story featuring their old and newly written songs: The Rise. But in May a final decision was made - coRPus was put to an end. The band did an interview on Radio Scorpio (a local station in Leuven) announcing that the last gig would take place at Rockcafé Leuven on the 29th of May 2005.

Two years passed and Benno and Steve were wondering how it would be to come together again. They asked Wouter if he was still interested and in June 2007 they started off rehearsing again as a trio. In the meantime, Steve had written a few new songs and they could easily be implemented in The Rise. So the band had a new purpose: to finally record these songs and create what they had been looking forward to for so long. coRPus did a few gigs with the help of keyboard wizard Toon (from Io - the band in which Tom and Yann are currently playing) who also arranged most of the keyboard tracks for the recordings. The band entered the CCR Studios in Zulte on the 26th of April 2008 and after only 7 days in the studio, the album was completely finished!

More good news came soon after as they found the keyboard player they were looking for: Tobias joined the band in October 2008. With a completed line-up and a full CD out coRPus is currently promoting itself all over the world, selling CDs in Switzerland, Spain, Brazil, Iceland, the Netherlands,?
