Biography

Formed in 1996, Devolved debuted in the year 2000 with a two-track demo featuring the songs "Fallen Cities" and "Aversive Control". The tracks instantly received regular airplay on various Australia-wide radio programs, including the country's largest station, JJJ.fm. Devolved began headlining their own shows and quickly gained widespread national attention. The band eventually started writing for their debut full-length.

In 2001 the band released Technologies Australia-wide through Biotek Records and MGM. The album received phenomenal reviews from the press and Devolved gained instant recognition as one of the country's top metal acts. The band headlined more tours in support of the album, which was voted as the best metal release of the year on JJJ.fm and in Kerrang! (Australia). A video was shot for "Distorted", which received plenty of attention on music television networks.

Between 2002 and 2003 the band released Technologies in the UK, Europe, and Japan via independent distribution deals. Devolved performed over 50 shows in the UK, Europe, Japan and Australia as part of their World Chaos tour, performing with bands such as Machine Head, Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad, Arch Enemy, and Opeth. The band then returned to the studio to record a limited edition EP entitled Automation 001 with a slew of bonus features.

Between 2004 and 2005 Devolved began recording their second full-length album and were offered a deal through Sony Records (Australia) and Modern Music due to overwhelming success and sales figures. Devolved become the first and only extreme metal band to be associated with Sony Music in Australia. Calculated was released Australia-wide, which also received overwhelmingly positive reviews.

From 2006 to 2007 Devolved performed a series of one-off sold out shows throughout Australia as part of a farewell tour before departing to the United States. Founding member John Sankey relocates permanently to Los Angeles and recruits ex-Five Finger Death Punch vocalist Kyle Zemanek, bassist Hal Berkstresser, and Tony Sabatino (samples).

In 2008 Devolved began writing new material for their third full-length album; two new songs ("From The Ashes" and "Virus") were mixed by Neil Kernon (Cannibal Corpse, Nile, Deicide, etc.) and mastered by Alan Douches (Sepultura, Unearth, Shadows Fall, etc.). The band performed numerous shows throughout California, Arizona and Nevada, quickly gaining them popularity in the local scene and reputation as one of LA's elite live metal acts. Devolved also performed on the local Summer Slaughter tour and the Los Angeles Murderfest. A direct support tour with Divine Heresy took the band throughout various parts of America where they received an overwhelming response. 10 songs in total were completed and pre-produced for the new album.

In 2009 Devolved signed a world-wide deal with Unique Leader Records and released Calculated internationally in January 2010, while 2011 brought yet another full-length album: Oblivion, released May 24th. The band also announced the addition of renowned Los Angeles-based guitarist Alex Zimmer to the line-up.
