Biography

Infection is a Peruvian death metal band drawing influences from the thrash and deathgrind scene. To date, the group has released two EPs, namely Nothing but Scum (2008) and Beheaded Children Contest (2020), along with two full-length albums, Necrokindergarden (2009), and Acrotomophile Mutilator (2014). Since their formation in 2006, the band’s passion for creating music has not faded; on the contrary, they remain dedicated to keeping the flame of metal alive and consistently delivering brutal music to the world.

Founded in 2006 by guitarist Antonio Palacios and vocalist Giuliano Canessa, both shared a common interest in reviving the rawness of early death metal. Inspired by acts such as Death, Cannibal Corpse, and Monstrosity, they began composing and rehearsing their own songs. ‘It was the perfect time to bring that vicious sound back,’ stated Antonio. ‘I always wanted to be in a group that played this kind of music,’ added Giuliano, pointing to a shelf filled with discs featuring Death’s Leprosy, Morbid Angel’s Altars of Madness, and Suffocation’s Souls to Deny. Bassist Yuri Cazal and drummer Yesid Aranda joined the band soon after to rehearse and perform in various venues in Lima, the capital city of Peru, where they were met with unexpected positive reception.

Following the release of the Nothing but Scum EP in 2008, their first full-length album, Necrokindergarden, emerged in 2009. The title of Infection’s second LP, Acrotomophile Mutilator, was released in 2014. Their fourth record, the EP Beheaded Children Contest, features five original tracks and a cover of grindcore pioneers Napalm Death. The band’s fifth record, The Cryptic Homicides, is set to be released on March 24th, 2024, by the Gate of Horror Productions label. The album comprises eleven tracks of unrelenting brutality, seamlessly weaving together death metal with grindcore and thrash elements. Once again, the band sets a new standard in composition and arrangements, delivering songs that blend furious, intricate guitar work, relentless drumming, deep bass lines, and visceral vocals. Guitar reamping reaches new heights under the expertise of Fredrik Nordström at the renowned Fredman Studios in Gothenburg. Meticulous mixing occurred at //Kill the Pixel Now Studio, with the final mastering touches applied by the skilled hands of John Scrip, owner of Massive Mastering and a longstanding collaborator of the band.
