Arch Enemy, Lacuna Coil - Vocalists Present Award To Slayer

Arch Enemy vocalist, Angela Gossow has posted the following message on her MySpace Page:

"Dear friends,

I was invited to the Kerrang Awards on Thursday. Its all industry and business, not much of a metal party with bands like Placebo and Muse. I had to do a couple of Jaegermeister shots with Kerry King to get over this blasphemy. But oh well. Me and Christina were there to give the 'Hall Of Fame' award to Slayer - the only band who truly deserved their award! REIGN IN BLOOD (and chop those suit-and-tie-wearing corporates into pieces please).

Check out from the Kerrang! Awards:

Flying these days is a huge hassle. You are not even allowed to bring some toothpaste in your handluggage. I made it through the metal detector bare foot (even flip flops have to be taken off) and were asked to throw my chapstick away.. I looked at the security guy and said.. "Listen, I am German, non-religious, love my live and will NOT attempt to blow up the plane with a lipstick".. Needless to say he did not get the joke. I felt a personal triumph though that he didnt discover my saline nasal spray. Ha! Rebellion.

We are in full-preparation mode for Gigantour. We havent been touring for a while (did the EU festivals instead) and I struggle to remember the essentials I have to bring for living on a tourbus.. SANITIZER! I-POD! KEYBOARD! LAPTOP! And a million other things. We will be going straight to Japan and Australia after this, so we will be 6 weeks non-stop away from home. I am looking forward to it a lot, it means I will have people around me who are doing the thinking and organizing for me (hello Woody, Mr. tourmanager, I am talking to you, hehe..) and I will meet a lot of cool people who actually like what we do musically. Its a reward money can't buy!

Please stay healthy and pure fucking metal until we come to town! I want to see you crazy lot in the front row!."

Slayer - Cancel Appearence On Monterrey Metal Fest; Festival Pushed Back To November

Los Angeles thrashers Slayer have cancelled their previously announced appearance at the third edition of the Monterrey Metal Fest, previously set to take place Saturday, September 23, 2006 at the Coca Cola Auditorium in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Slayer, who were scheduled to headline the event, cited "personal reasons" as the cause of the cancellation.
As a reaction the festival was set back, most likely until November. A new headliner and the exact date will be announced soon.

This year's Monterrey Metal Fest is being billed as "Hell and Heaven United" due to the fact that the festival will include appearances by reunited Christian hard rockers Stryper and Satanic death metallers Deicide. The concert, which promises to be the "biggest and baddest version yet", will feature eight of the biggest names in heavy metal music from all over the world on the main stage and 12 up-and-coming international and Mexican bands on the second stage.

Slayer - Alternate Cover For Christ Illusion Released

Slayer - Record Title And Release Date Announced

Official press release:

"Christ Illusion" has been confirmed as the title of the new Slayer album, it has been announced, and the CD's release date is now confirmed for August 8, 2006.

"Christ Illusion" is Slayer's first new studio album since 2001, and the first recorded by the band's original line-up - Kerry King/guitars; Tom Araya/bass, vocals; Jeff Hanneman/guitars; Dave Lombardo/drums - since 1990's "Seasons In The Abyss." "Christ Illusion" was produced by Josh Abraham and executive produced by Rick Rubin, and will be released on Slayer's long-time label, Rubin's American Recordings/Warner Bros. Records.

"Christ Illusion" deals with familiar Slayer themes - god, religion, hate, and war. Song titles are "Flesh Storm," "Catalyst," "Eyes of the Insane," "Jihad," "Skeleton Christ," "Consfearacy," "Black Serenade," " Catatonic," "Cult," and "Supremist." According to Araya, "No one is going to be disappointed, it's going to blow everybody away. It's fast, heavy, and maybe faster than anything we've done before."

"It's a good mix of fast, brutal music and slower moodier stuff, it's pretty intense," added King. "It sounds like a damn Slayer record."

A core player in Slayer's history has also rejoined the team for the "Christ Illusion" project. Larry Carroll, who did the cover artwork for "Reign in Blood," "South of Heaven," and "Seasons In the Abyss," has painted an original piece for the "Christ Illusion" cover. Working only from the song titles and early lyrics, Carroll has produced a classic Slayer masterpiece - a portrait of the Christ - whose forearms have been chopped off - standing in an ocean of blood surrounded by floating, decapitated heads. Carroll created the painting on a 4-by-4-foot slab of wood using a combination of mediums. King already has placed dibs on ownership of the original wooden canvas.

Slayer will headline this summer's six-week-plus "Unholy Alliance Tour: Preaching To The Perverted," which features Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, Mastodon, and Thine Eyes Bleed, and kicks off at the Tweeter Center in Camden, NJ next Thursday, June 15.

Thrash Metallers Slayer are reportedly releasing a single to their new album. The single will be called 'Cult' and will feature the song Cult, a video of Cult and some 'rare fan footage'. The single is going to be a limited edition one (5000 copies) and should be released on 15th June. Slayer are also going to release a limited edition EP called 'Eternal Pyre'.

As the new album goes, it still doesn't have a name, but some unconfirmed track titles have been released. Here are the titles:

My money is on the album being titled 'Jihad'. Also, Slayer have posted a snippet of the new song 'Cult' on their official website: www.slayer.net Just open the site and the song will play automatically.

Slayer - Controversy With New Song

Slayer have sparked controversy with a new track about 9/11 from the terrorists' viewpoint. The California foursome were fed up with other bands' American perspective of the attacks on New York and Washington DC in 2001, so they wrote their own unique version. Guitarist/songwriter Jeff Hanneman has angered September 11th victims' families with the extremist angled track 'Jihad', which will be featured on their new album.

Guitarist Kerry King says, "In America every band under the sun has written their 9/11 song. And that's why I didn't want to have any part of it, but this is really cool. It kind of has an 'Angel Of Death' feel because it doesn't condemn anyone or say that anyone's right or wrong."

Slayer Tour Postponed

Slayer has been forced to postpone it's Unholy Alliance tour by 11 days because of surgery on their bass player Tom Araya. Araya recently had surgery on his gall-bladder and continues to have soreness, so he has been advised to take it easy and rest himself for about six weeks. His condition is a genetic one and he did damage to his gall-bladder through drugs, alcohol, etc. Slayer should be back on the road soon though.

Here is a statement by Araya:

"My doctor wants me to take it easy. He told me not to do anything stupid. No serious lifting. ... I couldn't lift anything heavier than five pounds the first week (following the operation), and you increase it by five pounds each week. So, by the time we hit the road, I should be able to carry my bass."

Slayer - To Hit The Studio Soon

According to a band spokesperson, US thrash gods Slayer will "go into the studio maybe December, possibly January to start recording" their long-awaited follow-up to 2001's "God Hates Us All". The album will surface on American Recordings' new home, Warner Bros. Records, sometime in 2006. More news as it develops.

In his recent interview with Metal Hammer, Slayer guitarist Kerry King said the following when asked about a new LP: "It seems like everybody under the sun says, 'We want a new record,' but at the same time, they keep saying, 'We'd really like you to come back on tour.' That shit bumps everything on the backburner. The funny this is Dave and me have had a 10-song demo we did up at his house that's been lying around since March 2004. I know Jeff has written a couple , and I've written a couple more since then, so this week we're going to start the process of getting back together and nailing this thing."

The album will feature original drummer Dave Lombardo. He played with the band until 1992, leaving to found Grip Inc. In 2001 Dave rejoined Slayer for the "God Hates Us All" tour, initially as a short-term fill-in, but has remained with the group.
