Den Saakaldte - New Vocalist Announced

Talking about Shining, it's only been a few days since Niklas Kvarforth announced his departure from one of his other bands Den Saakaldte.

That band has now introduced their new vocalist in the person of Øyvind "Maztema" Hægeland (Spiral Architect, ex-Arcturus, ex-Lunaris).

The band released the following statement: "When Niklas decided to leave Den Saakaldte in order to focus to his main band Shining, we knew that it would be damn difficult to find someone capable and charismatic like Niklas is.

We think we did well in finding that person... We are proud to announce that the new vocalist of Den Saakaldte, is no other than Mr. Øyvind Hægeland, known for his amazing work with Spiral Architect, Arcturus, Scariot, etc.

Øyvind has already started focusing on lyrics and different weird ideas he wants to express with Den Saakaldte's music. Vocals for the new album Kapittel II: Faen I Helvete are scheduled to be recorded, autumn 2011 and we are all damn excited about it."

HIM - Part Ways With Label

After 6 years and three albums, Finnish rock band HIM and Sire/Warner Music have decided to part ways.

Seymour Stein, founder of Sire Records says: "It was a pleasure working with HIM, and we're very proud to have been their partners for the last six years. Ville is a rare talent, and my relationship with their manager Seppo dates back to the days when he pioneered rock music in Finland looking after the career of Hanoi Rocks. HIM are particularly important because they are the first and only band from Finland to reach Gold status in America. I, along with the entire Sire/Warner Bros. family, wish them continued success in the future."

HIM's discography on Sire includes the 2005 album Dark Light, which reached gold in the US. Follow-up albums Venus Doom (2007) and Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice (2010) charted both in the US and Europe.

"We're ever so grateful for having had Seymour and Co as the generous hosts on our extended first stay in the New Country. It's been a Blast Royale but now it's time to clean up the rubble and start anew", comments Ville Valo of HIM.

Frontman Nick Holmes had this to say: "It's going to be amazing to play the Draconian Times shows again, DT was a huge success for the band; it seemed to be exactly the right album to do at the right time and to a certain degree was definitely the end of a chapter for the band. We always considered the album to be a "better" version of its predecessor Icon and using Simon Effemy again for the third time, I think we were all on the same hymn sheet and knew exactly what we wanted and what the album should sound like.

We had done a pretty extensive touring schedule for the Icon album before it, and there was already a decent buzz around about the band, In the 1990s without the Internet you could only really gauge how things were going once you walked onto the stage and saw how the crowd responded to songs! But after the DT album was released the response was phenomenal. Knowing that DT is still considered by many as being among their favourite albums of all time fills me with great pride, and I'm very grateful to have been part of it all and now having the chance to be here again playing it in its entirety is phenomenal. We are all very excited and can't wait to do the shows live, I really hope we see you all there and you have as much fun as us!"

Behemoth - Bone Marrow Donor Found

You all remember that back in August Nergal was diagnosed with leukemia. Now, the Behemoth frontman has issued the following update straight from the hospital:

"I'm still in the hospital but in quite a good shape so I write to let you know about my health and the further stages of treatment.

I've been through four planned chemotherapies and have stayed in hospital for over 3 months now. I've gone through the whole therapy smoothly, though I also had a couple of difficult moments. All this means I finish the stage of pharmacological treatment and I am about to start the irradiation and then the marrow transplant. Yes, we've found a donor! Having searched for months, the fundation has found a person whose genotype is identical to mine.

It would have been difficult to achieve if it wasn't for the support of so many people. Most of all, I want to express my admiration for Dorota - my wonderful and devoted fiancée. She did everything she could to help me and many other people, regardless of adversities and comments which were often unfair. Your help is invaluable! Thank you! I love you.

On behalf of me and all other people ill I thank everyone who registered in the bone marrow bank regardless of origin, skin colour or religion. The concerts for charity have been organised all over the world and people of show business, bands and, most of all, the fans got deeply involved. You are beyond great! One of you made my transplant possible, but remember, your attitude may save many others in need. So I appeal to everyone: don't stop the madness! The march for victory continues!"

Turisas - New Album Finished, N. American Tour With Cradle Of Filth

Turisas has finished recording the upcoming, yet untitled third album!

The new album was recorded between March and September 2010 at Sound Supreme Studio, Finland, and mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Paradise Lost etc.) at Fascination Street, Sweden. The album was produced by vocalist and main songwriter Mathias "Warlord" Nygård. The album is due to be released worldwide on Century Media Records in early 2011. Complete information on the album title, release date and all other details will follow very soon - watch this space!

Along with releasing a new album, Turisas is to join Cradle Of Filth on a US tour in February - March 2011. The other supporting bands on this tour are Nachtmystium and Daniel Lioneye (HIM side-project). Mainland Europe and UK shows will be following close behind, details to be announced shortly; 2011 is looking to be one long road trip!

Warlord Nygård comments: "After a 16-month break from touring, focusing fully on the work on our third album, I'm happy to tell you that we're DONE! The workload has been enormous, and at times I've wished I'd known better, formed a punk rock band and kept things simple! But to achieve real progress, you really have to dig deep and see what you're made of. Take bites so big, you almost choke. We've stayed true to our ideology of releasing music only when we have something new to come out with, not repeating ourselves or just copying what we've done in the past to feed the market. Now that we're done with studios, we're all extremely excited to get back on the road again, and as our latest visit to North America is long overdue, coming over in January with Cradle is something we're all very much looking forward to. We had a great time touring with them in Europe in 2009, so this should be killer! Now we only have to figure out how to play these new songs!!"
