Yes, it's true, Slayer is back! The band, who had disbanded after a farewell tour back in 2019, will be playing at least two shows this September; they will be headlining this year's Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky, and Riot Fest in Chicago. While it is not known if the reunion will be a permanent one, the lineup will reportedly include the same as before the breakup, co-founders Tom Araya (vocals, bass) and Kerry King (guitar), joined by Paul Bostaph (drummer) and Exodus' Gary Holt (guitar).
Vocalist/bassist Tom Araya commented via press release: "Nothing compares to the 90 minutes when we're on stage playing live, sharing that intense energy with our fans. And to be honest, we have missed that."
Guitarist Kerry King added: "Have I missed playing live? Absolutely. Slayer means a lot to our fans; they mean a lot to us. It will be five years since we have seen them."
Kerry King spoke about how he's not been talking with Araya since breakup, that he's almost dead to him, talking shit about other members, new project and album on the way and couple weeks later... Slayer reunion. Ok. Strictly business right here, I pressume...

Yeah, it does seem kinda odd that they're announcing a reunion after two weeks when Kerry said he hadn't spoken to Tom in years. When the reunion was announced, I immediately thought his words were some sort of publicity stunt.
On the other hand, I don't understand why they would reunite after the fact that Kerry hadn't spoken to Tom in years and he's got a solo album coming out, while Gary is about to put out the next Exodus album, Tom doesn't want to tour and everything. My only guess is it has to do with money.
It's money, of course. And it's perfectly fine. The guys were offered a hefty pile of green, they talked and here we are. It's always business and it's been business since day one. Every band starts with a dream of making it big and making big bucks in the process.
Next thing you know Kerry King's solo album will be released as the next Slayer album
No problem with that for me
I'd rather hearing Tom on the vocals if the Death Angel guy is going to just immitate his style on the entire album. Tom is just irreplaceable imo

It worked with Guns n Roses. I doubt Slash and Duff would've shared a stage again with Axl without a tip truck full of cash to motivate them.

"Another day, another Doug."
"I'll fight you on one condition. That you lower your nipples."
" 'Tis a lie! Thy backside is whole and ungobbled, thou ungrateful whelp!"

Possibly, but his voice is too far gone. Even on later studio albums you can hear how it deteriorated. It was even more evident during live performances. Last time I saw them (in 2018 or 2019), he was getting worse with each song. It's blatantly obvious that he is not able to sing well anymore. A few gigs here and there he can probably manage, but not a full tour for sure.
I'm pretty sure Tom's voice was the main (if not only) reason for Slayer disbanding.

That, and Tom wanted to be there for his grandchildren since he put the band in front of his children over the years. Guys getting old. You either have energy or you don't. Some guys like Kerry King still thinks he's 30yrs younger. But I don't think was practicing his vocals at all outside of making music. But it's all good 👍🏻
Also, Mark (Death Angel) is one hell of a versatile singer. He doesn't have to sing like Tom, but I think King had control over that. And he has great energy live. It is the hardest I've heard of Mark's vocals though

Now that GN'R and Slayer have both reunited, I've had the hope that Sepultura will be rebranded with Max and Igor back together once their "farewell" tour ends. That may never happen, but we'll never know.
Not to mention, I remember being happy back in 2006 or 2007 when I heard Max and Igor had settled their differences and look at them now, they're still playing together as Cavalera Conspiracy or Cavalera, whatever they go by when they tour these days. To me those tours are the closest we'll ever get, at least for the time being, to a Sepultura reunion with both Max and Igor.
Great news! Now, make sure to give us a new album!
If they could get Gary Holt to contribute to songwriting, unlike what happened with Repentless, then I'm in!
100%. Kerry is a legend but Hanneman was the stronger songwriter by a lot.
Gary Holt could at least provide a bit of songwriting balance if they gave it another go.
Yeah well, given that he's the main songwriter of Exodus, why not? I'd be for any songwriting contributions by Gary in Slayer, that is, if they're gonna make a new album, or even a new EP or whatever.
