Well, here it is, Rap.
Lots of metal Heads feel that this genre has
nothing to offer, that it is unintelegent and
without feeling, that it's all about smokin'
joints and gang wars.

But others may realize that rap and metal
arn't so different after all. Just look at
How Public Enemy Did a Song with Anthrax,
It's simple, both metal and rap can tend to have
rebelious and politically themed music. (punk to actually)
They both can indicate Drug problems and spiritual
Awareness.

For me, Rap is my favorite Genre of Music second
only to metal (Of Course!) Because I feel, well......
Pretty much the same as how I explained on the previous
Paragraph. It's intelligent, Political and for the most part
rebellious music. It also sounds good to me, If it's a good
M.C., the words flow like water with the Beat in the background.

So, what about you, is it stupid to you?
Do just not like the Sound?
Or maby you Love the sound,
and hey, do you relate to it?

Go Forth and Tell me!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: If you're going to critisize this genre of Music in any Negative way, Please make sure you critisize it with some inteligence. Statements like "The Only Good Rapper is a dead one," WILL BE MARKED AS A SPAM POST!!!
So please, remember that, and we're cool

No, you're wrong.

It's not just rappers like 50 cent, there are rappers out there whos lyrics are much more meaningful, and still use freequent profanity and the word "Nigga" not that abomidable term that ends with the "Er." The Wu Tang are all very talented, and for the most part deep rappers. They are without a doubt one of the largest influences that the hip hop genre has ever seen due to the alterations of the production stylings that the RZA brought to the table, as well as the lyrical intracicies that they all did. They rap about Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Bhuddism, Taoism, general spirituality, Politics, hip hop culture, and inner city struggles, yet they all still use nigga, and they still cuss. So what, that doesn't mean that they just strive for comercialism and that their raps are shit. It's just real, that's how things are, and without it being sugarcoated it's a more acurate portrayal.

Far as european rappers, well, I have nothing against them, and what's more while I may not be heavily into them I do respect them. So my rant was really about the word "nigga" and not about euroupe at all, just clearifying that.

ok maybe I am wrong, if your post was about me, but since you are not in European Rap how can you know what they are singing about ? check out for example La Caution from France, you WILL NOT hear the word nigga or nigger, never! and also here in Greece with Greek Rap, this word simply don't exist!

I am not trying to disrespect european rap, like I said, I have no problems with them. All I'm getting at is that you shouldn't just compare anyone that uses the term "nigga" or cusses to materialist poppy club rap like 50 cent. There's more meaningful rap out there, yet they still use that term, so who cares if that's a factor in the music? 50 cent is just too untalented to be put on the same level as Nas, The Wu Tang, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Kool G Rap, and LL Cool J. So I just feel the need to defend the respect of pioneers in the genre.

I used to HATE rap.
But then I listened to a lot of it.
I still hate most of it, but the 80's oldschool is actually quite good music.

Run DMC, Public Enemy. Both obviously influenced and were influenced by current metal bands. Run DMC includes the word Rock in about half their song names, and did a clever cover of Walk This Way. Public Enemy are pioneers of the Rap-Rock genre by performing with anthrax.

ahem. you are in the Rap topic, talking about Rap and Hip Hop and shit like that here. if you wanna talk about Cryptopsy or the new Origin or other Death Metal bands go to the Extreme Metal section, if this is the only "real music" for you. and this has nothing to do with the emo scene lol, horrorcore is not hardcore, it's just Rap with horror lyrics. perhaps you are a closeminded person and you cannot listen other genres besides Metal...

Ah, nothing like having to deal with another closed minded arrogant douchebag. Okay, first of all, anytime you enter into a thread, you should read the opening post. So, if you did indeed do that, then you would know that a critisism without a constructive support will be marked as a spam post, so I will simply say-quit spamming in my thread. The next thing to adress here is the fact that you are arbitrary in your words and actions, as you come into this thread and proclaim Rap a disgrace to metal, but before saying that you said you own three Cypress Hill Albums and that you listen to them. Hmm....what does Cypress Hill mainly rap about again? Oh yeah, weed and guns. Isn't rapping about these things the very reason why people proclaim hip hop as "Shameful"? and yet you listen to it. You yourself are shameful, and I hate how people like you represent metal fans, because you are the epidimy of closed mindedness and self contradiction. Oh yeah, just to concur with dearaiser, you also showed how intelligent you were by calling Horrorcore "Emo."

Let me ask you this, what makes rap any less of a legitimate genre of music?

And finally, I think it's funny how you said "Kids." Just look at you.

calm down people. there is no need to compare Metal with Rap. we are in metalstorm, and we are talking mostly about Metal here, if you don't like other genres and especially Rap or Horrorcore (I'm gonna say it again, this music has NOTHING to do with Emo) then don't post here, it's not a competition for the best music genre or something like that. and dear ABUSOR, what's your problem if someone is a fucking geek with no life ? it's his choice, to live his life the way he wants. please respect other peoples opinions or stop posting at all. no offence but if you don't like something here, ignore it!

Does it bother me that all they rap about is weed and guns? No. I never said rap is a disgrace to Metal, read my comment properly buddy. Weed and guns "shameful"? Are you fuckin kidding me!? Is Broken Hope "shameful" because of their lyrics? What I meant by "kids" is a little kid like you.. Making a big deal out of nothing. What are you? A fucking geek with no life to write a paragraph that fucking long over nothing? Your a joke. What are you doing even posting this shit?

It might not bother you that that's what they mainly rap about, but that seems to be most people's problems with hip hop to begin with, so I assumed that that's why you called it a "Disgrace to metal." That in itself was an ignorant comment, I mean, metal has nothing to do with hip hop and hip hop in no way does anything that could sully metal, so why then, do you refer to it as a disgrace? and yes, you DID call it a disgrace to metal, because you said:
Quote:
But does this mean I disgrace Metal

What did you mean by this, if you weren't calling it a disgrace to metal?

And furthermore, you said that it wasn't real music. You made both of these statements without any warrent and any kind of support to your critisism, and frankly, when people like you speak out of ignorance, especially when it comes to rap, I get quite pissed. So yeah, once more, think about what you say before you speak down to others about maturity, especially when you yourself are the one being immature.

And about me being some sort of "geek." Does me being educated or trying to make concise points against your remarks mean that I don't have a life? I love all the preconcieved notions that people have. If you want to know about me and my life, or the way I live it, go ahead and PM me, I'll tell you all about it, I'm sure you'll find alot more in me than you might think, but I above almost all things have a passion for the music that I listen to. If there's a difference of opinion that's one thing. Hell, I might not of even flamed you if you were more respectful about it, but when you speak so insultingly without even giving a worthwhile reason for what you say, yeah, I'm gonna type a paragraph about it, in hopes of maybe educating you about what you say.

I really don't care, people like what kind of music they like, and I don't get pissed or ranty on people that like different music than I do. I just happen to be born liking Metal and rock, my brother was born liking rap. You can really control what music you like once you discover it.

I never really liked rap, the vocals just bother me, I find the themes stupid, I hate their attitude...
Yeah that really is how I feel towards rap, but I am sure that 9/10s of all people into rap thinks the same thing about metal. I am sure that if I was really interested in finding out about rap, I would probably find a few bands (I mean rappers) that I would actually enjoy.

But I just wont do that, because the genre does not appeal to me at all, I like technical stuff, I like emotional music (Im not saying that rap cant be emotional,) and I also like classical influences (is there any on rap? other than the casual orchestral in a rap "ballad"?)

I do respect rap as a genre, but I just hate the fans who basically know nothing about it but the mainstream bands (think about today's metalscene 20 times worse) therefore it is very unlikely that someday I will support it (unless there is something like "Progressive Rap") I actually saw what rap done correctly might sound like; Mr Doctor uses rapping techniques, sure it doesnt sound like rap but its a very similar technique (metal uses classical methods of singing, but it doesnt sound like an opera [say Avantasia and I shall rip your balls off]) I also enjoyed Pain of Salvation's "Scarsick" and I actually enjoyed the parts were Daniel rapped, I thought it matched the song perfectly.

Another thing that I highly dislike is when you mix shitty -core metal with rap, those are the two genres which I despise the most, mix them togeather and you got something unberable (at last to my ears)

The rappers attitude is just plain ridiculous, but isnt metal also stupid and silly at times? The same way BM uses corpse painting and all that crap to look "evil" rap uses the bling to look "pimped up". However in my eyes, rap is way more overlysaturated with those themes than metal is (black metal uses CP I find it ridiculous, but oh well)

Also, call me ignorant if you may, but I have yet to hear a rapper rapping about themes that does not relate to politics, a woman (be it a whore or not), or money in general. I've always hatted political lyrics, even on metal thats why I try to stay away from thrash. Perhaps if one rapper wrote lyrics as beautiful as a Death Doom band I would perhaps listen to it. Poetry doesnt always have to rhyme, if it does all the time it sounds childish and silly.

Well as a metalhead, I still find true the phrase "the only good rapper is a dead rapper" I dont like how it sounds, I hate the image, but I know that Im just looking at the surface, but if the genre doesnt appeal to me at all, its pointless to research about it. I am a very happy close minded metalhead (I dont listen to anything other than: metal, opera, classical, soft rock, prog rock, tango, bossa nova, pop, and pretty much all the crap you can imagine but rap)

@4look4rd: On the subject of Rappers and the subjects that they rap about, yes, there are those who take it to other levels than just those things you mentioned. The rapper Proof wrote a song called "Kurt Cobain" that's about suicide, and his last messege to his friends/family, soo...that's an emotive theme for you.

As far as orchestra and influence from outside influences, RZA from the Wu Tang clan uses Jazz Piano and Orchestra influences in his prodection. Listen to the song "Triumph."

Well, you're opinion is your opinion, and you may have it.
