Poor releases -
Within Temptation - The Heart Of Everything
Moonsorrow - V: Hävitetty
Dethklok - Dethalbum

I agree with you on the Dethklok and Within Temptation albums but certainly NOT on the Moonsorrow one. IMO that one is their best to date

I found it way too bland and tedious, Moonsorrow are renound for repetition, but this album i found, being two epic songs really drove that in. I still think Voimasta Ja Kunniasta is my favourite, a bit more variety and the epic song Sankaritarina is my overall favourite.

Perhaps i will get into it more later on, i have only listened to it about two times.

I think it has been a very good year in other styles of music besides from metal. Good examples would be "I Sleep When Your Dead" by El-P, the Good, The Bad and the Queen, also Ulver which I don't consider as a metal band anymore.
As for metal there is only one album that has really captivated me in 2007 and it's "Ordo ab Chao" by Mayhem. It is almost unbelievably awesome album.

Huh...well there has been a handful of dissapointments this year IMO

Behemoth - The Apostasy
Nile - Ithyphallic
Dying Fetus - War Of Attrition
Crystalium - Doxa O RevelatioN
Megadeth - United Abominations

I just felt that these albums were made with a lack of creativity and went towards the concept of what people expect to hear from a metal band, but that's just my perspective.

Am I just one of the very few that found this release utterly and superbly boring? Even the new Drudkh blows this right out of the water IMO. But then again I also found the Alcest debut mini album totally boring and snore inducing.

Its ok, I absolutely worship this release. New Drudkh , Xasthur and Darkthrone was PUKE.
Some of the good release/stuff which i enjoy: Deathspell Omega , Marduk ,Sothoth , Kronos , Immolation , Nox , Cephalic Carnage OMG , Shining and some Thrash release.

Twilightning's "Swinelords" has really grown on me since I first listened to it, it's currently my fave album from this year. Every song except "Consume Gap" gets me in a good mood, just brilliant whenever I'm feeling tired or sad

My biggest disappointment would have to be King Diamond's "Give Me Your Soul... Please", it was so watered down, lacking the aura his music usually has. It's definitely KD's worst album so far, IMO (There was really only two others of his that let me down in his Discography, thus far).

New Drudkh I found better than The Swan Road and that atrocious acoustic crap of theirs. Xasthur haven't heard yet but is probably more of the same so good but not great. New Darkthrone is great if you like punk mixed with BM (which I do btw)
Deathspell Omega is a masterpiece, Marduk as boring as ever, Sothos haven't heard. Kronos very good same for Nox and Immolation, Cephalic Carnage great, Shining brilliant though totally not bm anymore except for the vocals at times.
Best melodic death this year by a mile DETONATION

why? just because I find Marduk boring? Sorry to say but they are so immensely monotone. even on their latest which is just slightly less monotonous than their older stuff. Marduk is entertaining live, but for about 30 to 40 minutes at most. And my god they come over a couple of times a year to the Netherlands for primarily festivals so nowadays it is almost imposible to avoid them.

Really? Over Demigod and Zos hmmm...From what I've heard of Apostasy I felt that it was a bit too technical, quite frankly it made me bored. Where as Demi & Zos have a playlist that changes noticably from track to track. But I'll listen to Apostasy again to see how I like it a second time around, my opinion isn't set in stone so maybe I'll see/hear something I didn't before.
