What genres out there do you find completely useless? I think the whole point of this thread back in the old MS was not coming out and saying what you hate about current genres. The point was to talk about sub-genre names that people just make up due to lyrical content, image, etc...

Can anyone tell me wtf is norsecore?

I quite agree with you. I have seen that term pop up with tr00 nekro kvlt krieg frostbitten black metal kiddies denoting bands such as Marduk (nothing to do with Norway so Norse is wrong here hahaha), Dark Funeral etc. the bm bands that just blast away.
I think the first website to use the term Norsecore are our [sarcasm]brilliantly talented[/sarcasm] friends of www.anus.com

It would be a huge off-topic for Gorgoroth topic if I would post it there, so I do it here...
Happy to see that we are foremost in making genres. Now as a member of Metalstorm® genre-making industry I present some new genres..

Norsecore = Marduk
Dutchcore = Ayreon
Francecore = Benighted
South Americancore = Sepultura
Middle Easterncore = Orphaned Land
New wave of Hungarian Budapestcore = Tormentor
Progressive/Doomcore Death Stockholmcore = Opeth

And here is for metallica:

1982-1983: Davecore
1984-1987: Masterpiececore
1988-1990: Borecore
1991: Blackcore
1992-1996: Pre-loadcore
1996: Loadcore
1997: Reloadcore
1998-2001: Post-reloadcore
2003: Larscore (Shitcore)
2004-2007: Iconcore
2008: Unknowncore

I think my post is a nonsensecore post

I heard of Opeth being referred to as 'Forest Metal'. I've FINALLY given a name to the air-guitarists and what not.

We all play Mouth Metal! I'm not trying to brag here, but I'm in a one man band since I can play it all

I think the whole forest conceptuality in earlier albums was supposed to represent the vastness of Mikeal's never ending depression...it had nothing to do with the music...just the lyrical content...

First, Dani doesn't sound like Donald Duck at all, it's more like a rabid cat ^^. And Vampyric Metal is an apocryphal term that encompasses all goth/black/symphonic bands you can't classify, like CoF. But it sounds stupid, because there are a lot of bands who play a mixture of genres ad it's not necessary to invent a new genre everytime a band has a new sound... Like Heroic Metal (Ensiferum), Pirate Metal (Alestorm, Swashbuckle) or Battle Metal (Turisas)... Damn, they just all play power/folk metal with different themes, that's all! New genres tend to pop up at every turn in Folk Metal, since the themes depend on the band's native country and folklore. I mean, Moonspell uses werewolf and vampire themes, but they're not Loup-garou Metal.

I have nothing against Dani Filth, but he's the only guy I can imagine that's meant with that term. Besides, he hasn't been on the top of his game for yeeaaaars.

So I had a conversation with one of my friends the other day about the classification for what I thought was Melodic Black Metal, whereas he talks about Norse-Core, which just freaks me out because to me any music with the term "core" in it gets my stomach churning and imagining sweaty emo bands from the US.

So which is it?

Google them.They are quite spread on the internet.I just don't really see any difference between Drone and Cyborg and Atmospheric sounds a better name for subgenre then Lounge,that<s why I think its stupid.As of Spartan Metal I think I saw it on on a E-zine but I don<t remember where it was.

If I were you I'd still call it Melodic Black Metal.That way,If we all ignore the Norse Core classification it might go away.

The term Norsecore to me would be an umbrella term for all core bands from Scandinavia and would have nothing do to with melodic black metal because melodic black metal isn't just from Scandinavia...

@Korrupt: Yeah but it seems useless to classify by country something so generic as Hardcore.I don't have a lot of knowledge in that style but IMO US Hardcore sounds the same has any other Hardcore

Norsecore is used by BM Uberelitists when it comes to bands such as Dark Funeral & Marduk and has nothing whatsoever to do with Melodic Black Metal.
