The Download Festival is the UK's premier Rock Festival. A mammoth 5 day rock event, based at the spiritual home of rock - Donington Park. Produced and promoted by Live Nation, The Download Festival is now in its seventh year. Previous heavy rock superstars headlining the event have included Iron Maiden, KISS, Metallica, Guns N' Roses, System of a Down, and Black Sabbath. With 3 days of incredible live music, across 3 stages and around 100 bands performing, Download Festival will be the ONLY festival to see some of the best heavy rock on the planet in 2009 - but of course the complete, now fully established Download experience (including camping facilities, 'RIP' packages and entertaining carnival atmosphere) is about far, far more than just the music - it's simply not to be missed.

Well Heaven And Hell is definitely a good start to the line-up!! It'll be very interesting to see just who they get playing at the festival this year!

EDIT: Turned out they weren't playing after all.

According to http://www.last.fm/event/814008 Lamb of God and God Forbid will be playing too. Not heard anything by God Forbid, but Lamb of God is a pretty good addition to the line up.

Finally a few more names announced. Seems most of the big festivals are going to have the same line-up pretty much again.
Still, The Prodigy would be interesting to see if they don't clash with a good metal band.

Not that I could go, but aside from Anvil, ZZ Top, Def Leppard and maybe Dream Theater there's no band I'd like to see.

These bands added:

Opeth
Meshuggah
Dir En Grey
Five Finger Death Punch
You Me And Six
Steadlür
Laenmower Deth
Duff McKagan

Hahahahaha, Opeth?? Opeth?? Are they serious, I think I should just give up and mindlessly worship them like everyone else does. Why does everyone torment me with Opeth?? Hahahaha.

I'd only visit this festival for Chris Cornell and The Prodigy. Perhaps for Down, too.

Strange line-up.

i on the other hand noticed how younger nu metal bands are getting the attention: limp bizkit, slipknot, lamb of god, trivium, korn, killswitch, and of course marilyn manson.

People complain about the lineup at Wacken but at least it's not total sellout like this one, Trivium, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Staind, Def Leppard, Whitesnake... well there are a good few bands that i personally would like to see but only if they have a "true stage" and a "poser stage" lol

also i see there's a good few non-rock/metal bands on the bill, is this fest not limited only to rock/metal?

Download was never a pure metal festival whereas Wacken pretends to be. Download was always a general music fest.

This has to be one of the worst lineups I've ever seen in my life. I'd rather live in North Korea for a year than be exposed to some of these bands in concert, absolutely horrendous.

No. It's pretty much a melting pot full of big bands in big contemporary genres with emphasis on rock and pop pretending to be rock...

Slightly annoyed as Mötley Crüe clash with Faith No More, and also Slipknot clash with The Prodigy. I would like to see both of those.

What? You want to see Mötley Crüe? You have any idea how crap they are? (and then especially live nowadays) And also Slipknot? Man, you are weird.

Hahaha, of course I do. I love a few of the Mötley Crüe albums so I need to see them live. We'll be seeing them at Hellfest anyway, so maybe I will just completely miss them here and watch the full Faith No More set.
Slipknot were one of the first metal bands I listened to and have always been interested in seeing them live... apparently they put on quite a crazy show. Prodigy are just one of those classic bands that really need seeing live. I don't know what I'll do there... neither are playing anywhere else I am going.

Take it from me, paying big bucks to see Motley Crue fuck up 2 times in a row totally ruined my taste for them. They can't play for shit live. I used to be a big fan until I got burned twice, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe they just had an off night the first time I saw them...nope. If you have any respect for them I recommend not seeing them live, they'll ruin it for you. Both times I saw them rank up there as some of the worst shows I've ever seen.

The FNM reunion should be really fucking solid though.

Ok, I have put in all the bands at the festival. The line-up is complete!

Looks like Sabbat are going to clash with Dream Theater, or someone around that time - which isn't good!!
Some of the clashes this year are just badly thought out I think. If you like metal, sometimes there are no metal bands on, and then when there are - they are all on at the same time!
