Please post here your top 5-10 Melodic death albums
Please Explain

myn are:

1.Dark Tranquillity - The gallery
Well what can I say...
Great guitar work, changes of tempo, great screams of despair, lyrics are amazing and contian Greek mythology and latin.
It touches me very deeply.

2. Arch enemy - Wages Of Sin
I just love her and the fast riffs and great solos
One of the classics for me- the first metla albums I ever liket.

3.At The Gates - The Red In The Sky Is Ours
Pain and despair, so sick, so touching, tho The riffs sometimes are weak.

4.Amon Amarth - Once Sent From The Golden Hall
Im sure Im a viking when I listen to this band !
I lvoe it! its so epic !

5.Eternal Gray - Kindless
One hell of an original death metal machine. Grea great riffs, remind me of old school.

Black metal + Death metal a classic !

7.Entombed - Left Hand Path
a Classic two...killer riffs fast and cutting tho flesh like butter!

8.Dark Tranquillity- Character
Probably the most perfect album of Dark Tranquillity. graet work in wirting and lyrics.

9.Unanimated - In the Forest of the Dreaming Dead
Original , sounds like Black metal + Death.

Amon Amarth is the only one melodic death band that i can listen (other sound like crap for me).
And this band has less then 10 albums. It means that they all go in this top...:) I can't put them in an order because it's too fucking hard to decide which one is better than another one.

I thought that this topic was about melodic death metal? then why keep people bringing up bands that have nothing to do with melodic DEATH metal such as CoB, Kalmah, Norther, most albums by Dark Tranquillity, everythign Arch Enemy did with Angela Gossow on vocals

Man one dude soemwhere in forums say CoB are Melo death metal but I dont remeber where and who, but i was lafing all day
About Arch Enemy I agree I prefere older albums before Angela was there(forgot name to vocalist) old good AE was whit male vocals and it was great

1. Arch Enemy - Stigmata it has AE's best melo-death guitaring. Wages of Sin might be a better album overall but it's not really melo-death.
2. Amon Amarth - With Oden on our Side what can i say, this is the definition of melodic death-metal and one of the band's greatest.

P.S.

CoB, Norther, Kalmah, while they are amazing, they are not death-metal! Melodic yes, but not death.

You wouldn't consider that to be Melodic Death Metal?

The Crown - Crowned Unholy
good stuff. Crowned In Terror, Drugged Unholy were my fav.

Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery
Punish My Heaven and Mine Is The Grandeur Of Melancholy Burning are great

At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul
Slaughter Of Soul is still a song I listen often and play on guitar

Dark Tranquillity - Damage Done
my first Dark Tranquillity album

The Crown - Deathrace King
not as good as Crowned Unholy... too bad

Soilwork - Figure Number Five
pretty good but it got bored pretty fast. not complex at all, very easy stuff
but probably will listen to it more and more, my girlfriend start to like this

Death - Sounds of Perseverance
Great album, iv always been a big chuck schuldiner fan, his style is just incrdible.
Opeth - Morningrise
Although i dont consider all their albums melo/death the first three most definately were melo.death
Novembers Doom - The Pale Haunt Departure
I think this band dose have elements of doom metal in their lyrics, but they are definately melo/death in their sound and style of playing.
My Dying Bride - the Light at the end of the world
Ok firstly they are doom, but they have a great deal of death metal in their music as well. This album is really an incredible piece of art.
In the Woods - The Heart of the Ages
Ok its more of a melodic/black, but it is still in the same aura of the other albums mentioned in my list.

My list looks a little different to most here, but each of the bands has a melodic side and a death side, whether or not you argee with my posting them. They may not be purely melodic/death, they do indeed meet the requirements.

01 Carcass - Heartwork (The title song is awesome, also the album with the musicstyle change by Carcass)
02 At the Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul (the second place goes to this one)
03 Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery (still the best album of Dark Tranquillity)
04 Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side (a little bit better than Versus the World)
05 In Flames - The Jester Race (this and Whoracle are the only albums I like from In Flames)
06 Hypocrisy - Abducted
07 Edge Of Sanity - Crimson (Interesting masterpiece by Edge of Sanity)
08 Wintersun - Wintersun (has Power Metal influence but it´s still a Melodic Death Metal album)
09 Amorphis - Tales From the Thousand Lakes (who doesn´t know this brilliant album from Amorphis)
10 God Dethroned - Into the Lungs of Hell (The Lair of the White Worm was brilliant too but this one before it was of course better...)

In no fucking particular order:

Dark Millennium - Ashore The Celestial Burden
Eucharist - A Velvet Creation
Eucharist - Mirrorworlds
Demigod - Slumber Of Sullen Eyes
Liers In Wait - Spiritually Uncontrolled Art EP
At The Gates - Gardens Of Gried EP
At The Gates - The Red In The Sky Is Ours
Detonation - An Epic Defiance
Detonation - Portals To Uphobia

Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery
Dark Tranquillity - The Mind's I
These are the ONLY two DT albums that are actually melodic death metal the rest ISN'T

Carcass - Heartwork.

Although I despise EVERYTHING they stand for, musically everything by Arghoslent should be in here as well. And then especially their masterpieces Incorrigable Bigotry and Hornets Of The Pogrom

And NO not At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul since that has NOTHING to do with melodic death metal whatsoever.

Oh, and why the bleeding fuck are people naming bands such as Kalmah and Children of Boredom here when they ahve nothing to do with melodic death metal whatsoever?

I'm not into Melodic Death, so I can sort my favorite albums easily.

1- Hypocrisy - Virus
2- Hypocrisy - Final Chapter
3- Amon Amarth - Fate of Norns
4- Amon Amarth - With Odin on Our Side
5- Hypocrisy - Arrival

To explain why, first I like Amon Amarth because of their lyrics, then because of the music. And Hypocrisy have a great great ability in performing the melodic death, and I believe Hypocrisy guitar-team, is the best guitar-team in metal (After 2006-2008 Deicide) So they easily can perform metalodic death metal.

My list in no particular order:

At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul (Definitely a melo death classic as everyone knows)
Soilwork - Stabbing the Drama (I generally think they're good, but this album was incredibly good and addictive)
Dark Tranquillity - Fiction (Maybe one of my top 5 albums of 2007.. I just love it)
Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side (They never let me down, and I like everything from them, but I had to choose an album so..)
Eternal Tears of Sorrow - A Virgin And A Whore (Possibly my favourite melo death albums of all time.. awesome keyboards)
Skyfire - Spectral (Incredibly good. The keyboard melodies are insane! I love it!)
Carcass - Heartwork (Another classic)
Arch Enemy - Wages of Sin (Maybe the best from Arch Enemy.. although doesn't have my fav songs)

I would call them Gothenburg. Cause there isn't the lightest hint of death metal left in them any more.
