12.01.2018 - 00:43 Written by RaduP on 11.01.2018 at 20:10 I don't really think that matters as 1-4 is a different span that the others anyway. 8-8.9 could be great and 9-10 could be white even.

Written by Boxcar Willy on 11.01.2018 at 00:38 While I wouldn't be against your idea in general, I think your colour scheme may need adjusting. Having a 5 and a 6.9 in the same colour makes me cringe. As a reviewer, its a little bit frustrating when a commenter thinks you're bombing an album you give a 6 to. While 6 (as you can see in the rating drop-down menu) means "Average". I'd rather not perpetuate the misconception that 6 means "crap". Overall, not against this idea, but it seems unnecessary.

14.01.2018 - 00:59 Written by Doc G. on 13.01.2018 at 19:59 My final attempt , this works with both sides as 6.5+ will show as yellow and subliminally "not crap" and 8+ will show as green, plus an even number between the two. 1-4.9 red 5-6.4 orange 6.5-7.9 yellow 8-10 green (or 8-9.4 green and have a perfect 9.5-10 be white) You could split it even further and have 1-2.4 brown/black/bad colour and 2.5-4.9 red.

Also, not sure if it's just a bug with me or if it has changed, but having the notification button disappear after checking them is annoying. I had three notifications today when i logged on, I clicked to check one, and after that the button disappears. I can back button it back to the notifications page, but it would be better if the button was there all of the time like it used to be.

I don't think Boxcar feels like it's a life threatening issue lol. I agree that the colours have always appeared misleading to me. It's a valid suggestion especially since it's a minor change and he's not asking for a massive overhaul of the whole system. We always have peons complaining about the rating system, to the point that it becomes seriously grating, so it seems like some people care. The colours and numbers don't exactly match, especially when reviewers often have to defend a 7 rating as being positive. Having an 8 and upwards appear as green would maybe help (or 7.5 or whatever).

20.01.2018 - 18:40 Written by Boxcar Willy on 14.01.2018 at 00:59 I'll repeat: 6 is not a bad rating. 5 is. If anything I'd be more in favor of bumping yellow down to 6. The simplest answer would just, someone here said, asign a different colour to each 0.1 rating. I can't imagine it being too hard creating a 100-colour gradual scale. I'm on the fence between Ilham and Marcel here. On one hand, yeah, the colours can be a little misleading, on the other, really who actually gives that much of a shit?

21.01.2018 - 19:39 Written by Guest on 20.01.2018 at 23:40 Yeah. I mean, the 0.1 scale (100 different color scale) would be for review/publication purposes where we can assign .1 scores. In essence, nothing would really change aside from the colors in publications (maybe on the regular 1-10 rating bar as well so it matches). Thats how I envision it at least. I really don't plan on pursuing this outside of this thread. Just adding my 2 cents to the discussion.

Account deleted Written by Doc G. on 21.01.2018 at 19:39 I think we should have it like that for every album, so if the avergae rating is a 9, it would show a different color than the average rated album that is 9.1.

Written by Guest on 21.01.2018 at 20:38 I agree with this too. Little updates like this keep the site fresh and interesting. Without them we might as well be the 2002 formatted shithole that is Metal Archives.

I think the thing under album covers that say "Buy for __", and it autogenerates links to places like amazon should be removed. It is useless as nobody uses them especially now, and if someone wants to buy a CD or LP or something they can research themselves on the internet where to buy them.

Written by nikarg on 18.04.2020 at 20:31 If this is the offical place to discuss it, I would say on a 1-10 scale of red-green, to make 'average' look better, perhaps 2-4 (for reviews) could be red, 4-6 could be orange, 6-8 could be yellow, 8-9 light green and 9-10 dark green? Or arguablly yellow could go down to 5.5 (rounding up to 'average'). I think the most important transition is the yellow/orange switch, because orange is the point where things begin looking 'bad'.

20.04.2020 - 17:14 Written by musclassia on 18.04.2020 at 20:37 I agree a lot of rating colors are misleading to their true meaning. Something i learned in other reviews sites (like AMG) is that a 3.0/5 album is Good. Here in MS a 6/10 album is orange, which does not really show any good sign. I know the "average" from AMG is 2.5 and here is 6, so there is a slightly different scale, but the colors here reflects different emotions.

Hello, I really like ratings And what I'm missing on the site at the moment is to see my own ratings in the "album top lists" (e.g. top 200, top 20 of 2020, top of death metal, etc.). That way I can see the albums I've already rated, and my own score. I've created an example image of how it could look like: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhAf4Ab0Yc86i_YEMuXTJqkOD7nMXA?e=upGjEr

Written by Miohn on 18.08.2020 at 19:41 We aren't currently set up to be able to make this type of change but it's a suggestion that has theoretically been in the works for some time now. The entire rating and chart systems are in need of an overhaul.

Hello, One of the many reasons I enjoy this website is because of the 'top 20 albums' of the year list, as it helps me discovering new bands. I understand that there should be a limit to the number of albums that are displayed (and I think 20 is fine), but it would be nice to be able to see the 30 or 40 top albums if we want to, just as an option. To discover new bands, I also like to use the 'New releases' page. It displays some good information such as rating and cover artwork, but I'd find very useful to see the music genre/style of the band/album displayed. I understand that it can be interesting to make one's own opinion about the music without knowing its labeled style. But as there is a huge number of albums to be found in this section, I think this would help to sort them quickly and focus on the genres we enjoy the most. Thanks

Written by Claudric on 26.08.2020 at 10:11 This is actually possible, all you have to do is go to the "albums" section of the website where you can see all th enew releases and stuff. From there, in the "filter by type" section, filter the kind of releases you want (studio, EP...), then in the "more filters" section, just type 2021 in the "years" box, and then type 20 in the "minimum votes" box (it's the criteria to get in the top 20 of the year). Then, click on the "filter albums" button, and then click where it's written "rating" in a white font, it will automatically sort every album released in 2021 by its rating. That way, you can expend your top 20 as much as you want! Hope I helped you, maybe you already figured that out in the past few months haha
