Since there's no point in talking about Porcupine Tree in the foreseeable future, let's just focus on this new Steven Wilson's solo album as it is. I've been wanting to write about it ever since I first heard it and figured it'd be an easy feat. Making up my mind about it turned out to be harder than I thought for, I have to admit, surprising reasons.

Very heavily influenced by 70's prog, almost to the point of worship, far more so than anything else he has done Solo or with PT. Very, very well played though.

The line-up already hints at a continuation to 'Grace for Drowning' and I'm perfectly onboard with that.

I can see where you're coming from, as Grace for Drowning is very subtle in its intricacy. I also didn't like it as much as Insurgentes the first time through, but it's one of those rare albums that takes a few spins before you really understand what's going on with it. After grasping the essence of the album, I found that I really enjoyed the strange, esoteric, eclectic nature of both Grace for Drowning (and Storm Corrosion as well). Not everyone will, though, so--like I said--I completely understand why you'd have that opinion.

Agreed, I thought it would be impossible to top GFD but the man just gets better. The Holy Drinker and The Pin Drop are my favorites on this one. People who don't like Steven will inevitably find this boring though.

Awesome album! Definitely the most "proggy" I've heard from anything Opeth/Porcupine Tree-related. Steven Wilson is a master of the genre.

This really surprised me, he has really outdone himself this time. It might not be revolutionary, it's simplistic in its nature. But I think that's why it is so damn good. He knows how to play with feelings and atmosphere Overall, a fantastic start for 2013!

The good thing about this record is that he successfully mixed the simplicity of the songs from Insurgentes with casual kickass impros by his bandmates that were the core of Grace For Drowning. But I still prefer GDF I think.

Well, this album's certainly different from Wilson's other two albums. Yes, it has quite a big King Crimson influence. But it's essentially how Wilson uses that King Crimson influence in his own way-and consequently, he makes another brilliant album as a result. I'm not saying that this will please both fans of 70's prog (I'm one of them) and modern prog in the nature of BTBAM/Periphery/Opeth etc.,but I think everyone should at least give it a try. It's an album that really brings together Wilson's talent and inspirations in a concise and consistent 50-minute album. 'Luminol' strangely begins in a very quirky way, which, in comparison to Wilson's earlier albums, is different. Along with the other 10-minute + songs, 'Luminol' goes through a variety of moods, tempos, instrumental flourishes, and it just doesn't stop impressing whoever listens to it. 'The holy drinker' and 'The watchmaker' are naturally darker songs lyrically (as were King Crimson in their heyday), but still distinguish themselves from 'Luminol' with very outstanding song-writing. The shorter songs, although less complex, make for very memorable tunes, and should be listened with the same focus and admiration as the longer songs. The title track for me is a little weak compared to everything else that precedes it, but it still amounts to a somewhat climactic and atmospheric finish.

So put simply, Steven Wilson does it again.

"Drive Home" is my favourite, just Steven doing what he does best really, that very soft touch that is so easy to listen to. Bit like how "Deform to Form a Star" was my song of choice from the previous album.

Even though being a huge PT fan I never really fell for Stevens earlier solo work but this record is truly amazing. Beautiful melodically yet a challenging listen. It's very diverse without being fragmented.
