20.06.2014 - 22:21 Written by Filthgrinder on 20.06.2014 at 20:55 To me, liking Dethklok really relies on liking the TV show. Most people who don't like the show hate Dethklok. Not a boundary pushing band, but good, more melodic stuff. As far as Cannibal Corpse goes, for the straight up brand of death metal they play I still haven't heard many other bands that are as good. Their sound has actually changed quite a lot over the years and at the moment there aren't many bands that have been around as long as still put out good stuff. People would probably say Asphyx but I never really liked them anyways. Cannibal Corpse is definitely one of my favourite death metal bands, they don't put out bad music. Lots of people hate them though.

20.06.2014 - 22:36 Written by Mattybu on 20.06.2014 at 22:21 Yeah CC gets a lot of hate, which I honestly don't understand really. I'm not a fan, but I can enjoy the occasional song. I think it's nothing to take seriously, but it's not rubbish metal either.

Some guy told me that the name Cannibal Corpse was edgy. -_- Goes to show that some people don't understand metal...

20.06.2014 - 22:43 Written by Ilham on 20.06.2014 at 22:36 I think it's mostly based on the fact that they haven't changed their style of death metal in general over the years. But if you listen to different albums there are actually pretty noticeable differences. As it goes in metal though, people will complain about it when you change, and others will complain about it when you don't, so you can't please everyone.

21.06.2014 - 00:22 Written by Filthgrinder on 20.06.2014 at 20:55 Not have heard Infant Annihilator but Dethklok isn't exactly a good band in my eyes. If you want to go deeper into death metal, I'd suggest this list . I haven't heard many of albums on that list but I think it might help you.

21.06.2014 - 00:33 Written by mz on 21.06.2014 at 00:22 Maybe sending her off on oldschool stuff is a bit premature? I'd suggest contemporary straight forward stuff. Krisiun, Mithras, that kind of sound perhaps.

21.06.2014 - 00:44 Written by Ilham on 21.06.2014 at 00:33 I'm not sure. Most of modern death metal is either too extreme in terms of speed/ BrOOtality/ technicality or is melodic ( if you consider music described as melo death as a form of death metal anyway). I'd personally could have given up the whole death metal if I had only tech/brutal DM bands in my early experiences with the genre.

21.06.2014 - 00:55 Written by mz on 21.06.2014 at 00:44 I wouldn't consider Krisiun or Mithras too extreme; although they're heavy as fuck . But that's me, that's what I like. I guess it's a bit unusual, but the energy deployed in that kind of DM appealed to me a lot more at that time. It kinda still does. I don't think MDM is what she is looking for, indeed.

21.06.2014 - 01:14 Written by mz on 21.06.2014 at 01:02 Hey, I'm sharing something personal, tailored for the occasion. Those are two of my favourite DM bands. I didn't throw at her 250 names I don't know half of, without any explanation or the slightest effort in breaking it down to her. I am obviously joking.

Some stuff that got me hooked with death metal during my first days with the genre were: - Akercocke (not pure death, but maybe that's why it helped) - At The Gates (first 2 albums) - Bloodbath (Debut) - Dark Lunacy (The Diarist, Melodeath) - Death (Leprosy, classic) - Dissection (The Somberlain, some good ol' blackened death metal)

Death's symbolic. the fact that it seemed almost as thrash as it was death and i was already into thrash metal made it a good introduction to death

My god I didn't think this was gonna be a hard one to answer till I started thinking >.< To the best of my memory I think the first real death metal album that sold me was Vehemence's God was Created. I was dabbling in dm prior to that but I particularly remember that album grabbing me by the balls and hurling me into the abyss. Heartwork was in heavy rotation at that time too. And its just been a constant progression since.

Opeth was the band that bridged the divide for me between the metal I was used to (thrash, heavy metal, radio crap, etc) and extreme metal. I hadn't heard much of any death or black metal prior. I discovered them right after BWP came out, and was infuriated that music like that existed and I had been unaware of it all those years. That discovery gave me an overwhelming need to explore all the more extreme genres. Fortunately, the internet (how I found them to begin with) was a great way to find more stuff. I heard Death shortly after, and it wasn't long before my entire musical landscape was overhauled.

For me there's 3 albums that got me into Death 1. Unquestionable Presence (by Atheist) 2. Altars Of Madness (by Morbid Angel) 3. Thelema.6 (by Behemoth) ... I suppose that's it. Not too original but that's what got me into it. All three of 'em being very different also.

Not a fan of death metal in general, but I do like melodeath. The first melodeath song I liked is "Are You Dead Yet?" by Children of Bodom, but I didn't like the vocals. The first melodeath song I actually liked the vocals is this: In Flames is the first melodeath band I liked. Death also got me into techdeath.

26.09.2014 - 21:41 Written by Sadistic1 on 26.09.2014 at 18:26 A great way to discover the "Whole New World" back then. I don't know if I've already posted here but if I remember well my first encounters with death metal were: Napalm Death - Harmony Corruption (although not really death metal, got it from a friend of mine who was into grind 'n stuff) Entombed - Left Hand Path (came on the radio show "Thrashing Madness" back then and bought it the same week) Paradise Lost - Lost Paradise (Our Saviour was in my head for a loooong time) Obituary - Cause Of Death (I heard about Slowly We Rot, but first listened AND bought this one) Death - Spiritual Healing (I heard only about Scream Bloody Gore, but first listened AND bought this one) Nocturnus - The Key (bought it blindly but didn't like it the first years...) Pungent Stench - For God Your Soul... For Me Your Flesh (bought it with my christmas money) Morbid Angel - Blessed Are The Sick (I heard about Altars but first listened AND bought this one) These are the ones (in order) that I listened/borrowed/bought in my early days. In '91 there was also of course Carcass, Cannibal Corpse, Impetigo, Winter, Deicide, Gorefest, Morgoth, Gorguts, Pestilence... but no: Tiamat, Unleashed, Grave, Immolation, Asphyx, Dismember... That was all after '91.
