ulver has a pretty good music , and I really like wildcat song that in my daily music some years ago

While I haven't heard the whole thing, I'm really enjoying some songs from their newest 'Shadows of the Sun.' I've always known this band can do amazing things with such minimalism, but what I've heard has been a very intense and thought provoking experience. Their music really provides a euphoric, ethereal soundtrack for life. To put this band into words is futile, so I'll leave it simply at "it is not sound."

I guess I'm just another picky elitist...but I really just can't get into any of Ulver's newer material.

The first few albums were freaking genius, but after that...not so much.

I love early Ulver works but albums like "Blood Inside" or "Shadows Of The Sun" are masterpieces as well! I would say more: last two albums (for example) - Ulver created something great and splendid - timeless music: atmosphere, feelings... Great sense of art and music. Very mature works... Through and complete music so to speak.

Even though it took me a minute to get into, I'm starting to really like Nattens Madrigal. At first, the production was almost offensive to my ears, but I got used to it. I hope they decide to re-record that album, but I highly doubt it.

Bergtatt is still my favorite though.

It is true: production is harsh but - what's interesting - everything is easily audible on good equipment even bass lines.

I think i find their first album was my favourite, but mainly for the first two songs, pure materpieces. I liked the next two as well, just didnt stand out as much. Ive tried their newer material (listening to Little Blue Bird now), its different, hard to get into.

Ulver is a mixed bag for me, I never really was that impressed with the Folk Black era - even though I like Folk a lot.
I listen to new stuff way more, but I should check out the early stuff again since I haven't listen to it enough and it is already a long time ago.

Kveldssanger is an incredible album. my roommate calls it Norwegian seasonal affective disorder music.

I loved "Blood Inside" although I'm still not sure why. It's not metal in any real sense, in my opinion. It's made me want to check out all their other albums (except the folk stuff - not a huge fan of it).

I know. I guess I was maybe saying it for those who aren't informed. Having said that I think most know what kind of music they play if they're regular members of MS.

I could never get into their new stuff. I appreciate it as being very progressive and muscially interesting but I could never see myself listening to it on a daily basis. I do like their old stuff alot though, and Garm will always be one of my favorite vocalists.

Just listened to Lyckantropen Themes album and im a little dissapointed. After the almost perfect Perdition City this one sounded boring.

I usually like ambient albums, but this one is kind of extreme. Spaceship soundtrack with little variation. ''Theme 6'' and ''Theme 7'' are the best tracks for sure.

Most Ulver stuff is awesome, no matter what area of their career. I've heard some songs not a good as others, but on average, Ulver is a great, respectable, impressive band.

It seems this band could have been one of the best black metal bands ever for me, then they seem to have quickly just thrown it all away.. Very sad

I think all of their albums are great, both Old and New material is amazing.

I was first introduced to this band through Bergtatt, which is a great black metal record, but I prefer their newer stuff myself. Nattens Madrigal, I've tried getting into many times, but the production makes it unlistenable for me, and the music can be pretty repetitive after a while (much of their newer stuff is repetitive, but there's more of a hypnotic, trance-like element to stuff like Lyckantropen Themes than the raw, loud black metal of Nattens Madrigal). Shadows of the Sun is one of my favorite albums of all time pretty much, the best music for a soothing, yet intense ride home, love Perdition City as well.

I loved Perdition City more than their debut. Was a more dextrous record and pretty interesting record but not metal anyway.

I'm rather enjoying Nattens madrigal - aatte hymne til ulven i manden as of right now. Seriously, its a concept album about turning into a wolf, how cool is that?

I have always considered Bergtatt - Et Eventyr i 5 Capitler to be one of the best Norwegian releases from the first half of the 90's. I am also very fond of Nattens Madrigal and Kveldssanger. Never really listened to their more recent work.

They turn into some kind of dark electronic stuff, which i quite like, but as you might notice, has nothing to do with the works you mention

@Et Ermit, yup, they are still a talented lot of guys, and their music is good. Just not my taste
