So I'm one of the few who thoroughly enjoyed "Rise Of The Tyrant"? I thought it had some really kickass riffs...

I still haven't listened to it enough. It's got some very catchy stuff throughout the album but nothing really grabbed me either.

Having said that I'll hopefully see them in November.

Anything after wages of sin doesn't matter. waaaaay too generic. they shouldn't have let angela take part in the writing process. i used to think arch enemy was the answer to my prayers. it's a damn shame.

Don't really see what people see in this band. Pretty generic, and no, her vocals aren't amazing. At all.

Oh. It's ok, that will still be interesting to listen to, although I would prefer an original album of course.

On a different note, I do agree with people that think Arch Enemy is losing their relevance in the scene. I disagree with all the reasons they use to justify it. I don't think Angela's vocals suck and I don't think she was the cause of all AE problems. I think people are usually hard on her. If the songs are good musically (like they were in the first albums with her) people wouldn't be complaining.

It's only my opinion anyway. I think the problem has been the fact that they stopped trying new things and take risks like they did before. I said this before, arch enemy's formula works for them and they settled for that. You have bands like Dark Tranquillity and Opeth who also have a formula, their sound if you want, but the last releases from both of these bands were innovative.

Bands have to keep it interesting, for them and for the fans.

that's right. till wages of sin AE used to create nice albums. after it they just create albums with SOME nice songs...

This is the typical misunderstanding of "the more, the better". Certainly that chick can sing harder than Angela, but to me, that's just a generic voice, i prefer Angela's even thou she isn't that "brutal".

For me it is not so much about the brutality as it is about the quality of the growl. Angela's growl I find quite shitty.

I totally agree on that! Angela is great and imo much better than their former vocalist (sry, I've forgotten the name ).

@Estuary: Imo they sound quite shitty, but I usually don't like stuff like that, so that's not surprising

they are not shitty man, they have some nice music but also they have awfull production from the little i've heard...

As I said, I don't like the whole genre, mostly I'm listening to folk, black, symphonic and stuff like that . And bands with an awful production are shitty

yeah i also dislike bands that do not care about the production -or that don't have a nice taste when deciding how the album will sound- but i just talked about the music!

I also don't like the music, but that's a matter of taste ofcourse

Same here, and actually that's what I like about Angela, she can growl really nicely but she's still a pretty woman, and TBH, it's teh only female growl I actually like.

Seeing them tonight. Finally, for the first time in years I can actually go. And in a tour they are play old songs, what more can I ask?

I hope it'll be fun.

They are very good live. They put on a good show, a lot of energy going on. I think that's always great for a metal band.

AE rules, but imo the vocals are definitely NOT the strong point of the band. the Ammots are two amazing guitar players and they are the ones who carry the band forward with awesome riffs and melodies and of course infectiously catchy choruses. case in point: my two favorite AE tracks by far, "Dead Eyes See No Future" and "Pilgrim"

the slightly generic vocals (no, i don't give a fuck it's a woman) and occasionally groovy drums just spice things up a bit.

Personally I think the high point is Sharlee D'Angelo. It's always nice to come across a bassist who's actually interesting to listen to. I suppose that's why I've always found later AE material to be better.

Angela's vocals are actually quite good; live they're raw, deep and somewhat guttural, it's just on record it gets treated to shit so ends up sounding nothing like it does originally.
