And seen as I'm jumping on the band wagon of starting new band-related threads before anyone else, I may aswell have my two cents regarding this one.
Their later albums are better. Both "Viva Emptiness" and "The Great Cold Distance" have far surpassed not only the bands own early material, but that of most other bands making music today.
Here is a link to their official website, where you can find out all sorts of juicy information: http://www.katatonia.com/
Cheers.

Are you sure you're describing to the band We are talking about? 'Cause if you are then you're more lost in what Metal refers than I am...And that's saying too much. P.s.: Thanks bro for giving Metal Lessons ^^ ::The sister of Mr.Doctor::

05.08.2008 - 21:03 Written by BloodTears on 05.08.2008 at 20:59 Same here... I'm really curious about the albums to come. The Great Cold Distance is Katatonia's best album since Discouraged Ones and the first albums IMO Don't get me wrong, the others between the two albums that I already mentioned are not bad... But not something that maked me astonished. But that's just me though.

06.08.2008 - 18:05 Written by BloodTears on 06.08.2008 at 15:16 That's what I'm telling you... We agree on "big" things such as Opeth or Katatonia are great bands. But just disagree in small things such as "this album isn't that good" I found that kind of coincidence kinda funny.

Listen to Katatonia is like a Catharsis, a purification of all that Melancholy you have inside, instead of just saving that sadness inside you, bands like Katatonia make you face it and understand it. amazing band

I love the entire discography, I have to say. I couldn't really tell you if I preferred the newer over the older however. If anything it would depend entirely on my mood. Their next album will be very interesting, considering what the lads have been doing with Bloodbath and such.

If the next release progresses the sound of The Great Cold Distance then I'd expect it too be very dark, gloomy, and (gasp) even more depressing?

It's been quite a long time since the I've heard Dance of December Souls. Must listen to it now. I don't like Viva Empitness, it's ok but not my cup of tea. Haven't heard The Great Cold Distance.

I think Viva Emptiness is an album that growns on you a little bit everytime you hear it. So it takes time. The Great Cold Distance follows the same vein as Viva Emptiness but it's way more direct and powerful IMO. and The bass and vocals are one of the best in the discography IMO. I recommend it to you

I've heard Viva Emptiness quite a while ago. I liked it, but it didn't grow. In the end I forgot it. I've only heard three Katatonia albums: Dance of December Souls, Brave Murder Day and Viva Emptiness. The first two I love and well, you already know my opinion about the latest. I'll try to get my hands on The Great Cold Distance.

09.12.2008 - 17:23 Written by the stranger on 09.12.2008 at 16:29 If you say that you really liked Brave Murder Day then I assure you that you will like "Discouraged Ones" because it has the same psychedelic and weird sound and raw production that BMD has. The only difference is that it's just clean vocals [such as the song "Day"] but it's a really good one if you liked the clean vocals. The Great Cold Distance is way cleaner... But good. But that's a matter of opinions since some people say the last album is their least good.

09.12.2008 - 21:32 Written by BloodTears on 09.12.2008 at 21:27 Yes, it has the totally opposite effect on me. All doom is totally uplifting for me. Therapeutic? I don't know, cause I can listen to all sorts of doom all year long no matter what mood I am in. If I am down I will become happy, if I am happy I will stay the same or become more happy.

Just a few days ago It was a really nice day and I was like: "Mmmm.. I really want to hear some Shining now!!!" And back on topic... You just said that you listened to that album here and there... I never spected you [specially you] to like [or even listen to] some stuff of Katatonia's second era... Interesting.
