At first I was a bit afraid by the first album of Deadweight, "Origins Of Darkness". In general too many Grindcore and Brutal Death Metal bands are so unoriginal and weak that their music is ridiculous, but I'm convinced too that some bands of this category are able to play really good and interesting music? It was a mistake to put Deadweight in the bad category because this young British combo is just excellent. If you like brutal but technical music, please check as soon as possible their first album.

The good point of "Origins Of Darkness" is that this album is not brutal for nothing. Of course the riffs are hyper brutal and the drums is a real machine gun but there are a lot of breaks on all the songs, there are a lot of guitars soli and finally even it seems to be really complicated, the album is nicely structured. Ok, the songs of "Origins Of Darkness" go in a dozen of directions and it can be a bit messy sometime but I like the fact that the band knows how to take risks playing a really complicated music without being pompous. "Origins Of Darkness" is a classy album of Brutal Death Metal with all the ingredients to find success.

Everything is not perfect too, some really brutal parts of songs like "Watcher" are in my opinion a bit ridiculous but when the band decides to plays again really technical music this is quickly a lot better. As you can understand I like to listen to brutal music when there is a real construction behind the songs. Here, we have at least 90% of the music which is intelligent and structured so I think that it should be ok for the people like me and when you know that the production is tip top I'm sure that all the fans of Brutal but technical music will like a lot this album.

"Origins Of Darkness" is an excellent album of technical Brutal Death Metal. Original, modern and not similar to the numerous boring releases of the other bands of the category, "Origins Of Darkness" is a must for all the people who like such music. Let's hope that Deadweight will not change anything on their future releases now and they should confirm all my hopes. Deadweight is a name that we will have to remember!
