Metal Albums from 1982

Created by: JCJen7 | 24.08.2011

1. Judas Priest - Screaming For Vengeance
After 2 disappointments, Priest gets more aggressive, the songwriting flows better, and they release the greatest album of their career.
2. Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
Bruce Dickinson ditches Samson, and we get the first taste of Maiden's flowing melodies, soaring riffs, and Dickinson's air-raid vocals over the top.
3. Venom - Black Metal
Venom ups the ante on what evil music is. This album is faster, nastier, and grimier than their debut. Oh, and the lyrics are hilarious.
4. Accept - Restless And Wild
Accept continues to do what they do best, make aggressive songs. This time though, they're leaner, and more focused.
5. Scorpions - Blackout
Heavy riffs (almost AC/DC sounding at times), powerful bass which accents the riffs well, and less annoying of vocals than they usually display.
6. Manowar - Battle Hymns
Manowar's most down to earth record. Although they did find time for a 2 minute bass solo.
7. Discharge - Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing
A hardcore punk classic. Fast, brutal, and to the point.
8. Anvil - Metal On Metal
A very heavy release at this time. Good songwriting, very heavy guitar/bass sounds, very impressive.
9. Witchfinder General - Death Penalty
A very early Sabbath sounding record. Good progression through the songs, heavy riffs, and good variety.
10. Tank - Filth Hounds Of Hades
More great old school metal, in the vein of Saxon and Raven.
11. Demon - The Unexpected Guest
A very catchy, and melodic album. Catchy songwriting, great drumming.
12. Diamond Head - Borrowed Time
Another fantastic album. I docked them a few spots considering 2 of the 3 best songs had been released 2 years earlier (they're re-recorded, but nothing changed drastically).
13. Riot - Restless Breed
A more varied release than 'Fire Down Under'. Solid album, stays interesting throughout.
14. Van Halen - Diver Down
They continue to prove they are fantastic musicians, although all of the very non-metal songs get goofy and tedious at a point.
15. Raven - Wiped Out
A very consistant release, with a fantastic acoustic interlude near the end. Fun album.
16. Motörhead - Iron Fist
Another fast and aggressive album, although this time it gets a little old by the end.
17. Virgin Steele - Virgin Steele One
Absolutely killer bass work, making the heavy gutiars really have a full sound. Great riffs, wicked solos, annoying vocals.
18. Twisted Sister - Under The Blade
Very bluesy, impressive vocals by Dee Snider. A grimy, down to earth record.
19. Tank - Power Of The Hunter
A less interesting version of Filth Hounds Of Hades. Has a lot of catchy tracks, but is quite repetitive. Still fun.
20. Rainbow - Straight Between The Eyes
Rainbow continues to move away from the heavy stuff of the 70's, to a very radio sounding hard rock. Catchy, technically everything sounds good, just misses originality and attitude.

I think 1982 was the best year for Heavy Metal, most of the albums were killers!!!
BeastOfMetal456 - 31.08.2011 at 16:51
C'mon!! NOTB is better than Screaming, which is overrated IMO.
