My favorite is Liv Kristine...
I think that all the female vocals are overrated, even Liv herself... I don't get so many feelings from them.

But Liv was some kind of different, I really feel pasion from her voice in the TOT's cds. and she and Raimond did the best duo I'd ever heard in my fucking live.

Alena Gornyh did a fantastic job on Vicious Crusade's Forbidden Tunes CD, which I think appeared in 2002 and is fairly hard to obtain these days. Crystal clear, powerful and precise voice. The music is Heavy Metal with folk influences and highly recommendable.

Humm.. That's a hard question since I really like "angelic" female voices and I know a lot of bands.. but I'd say someone between Simone Simons (Epica), Liv Kristine (Leaves' Eyes) or Kaisa Jouhki (Battlelore) don't make me pick one up! lol

Laurie Sue Shanaman from Black metal band Ludicra is far and away a better aggressive female vocalist than Mangela Gossow.

But since the topic creator specifically stated they didn't want any aggressive vocalist suggestions I won't reccomend her or the band...

Ok i am a fan of FF , so ill try to give some recommendations.

If you are searching for something really Angelic try Lunatica (fables and dreams) and Dawn of Destiny (..Begins) trully amazing Voices and music.

But my biggest suggestion is Nemesea. And their album "Mana" (do not try "In Control" ).
Together with WT "Mother Earth" and AF "Decipher" it is the best Symphonic Gothic album of all times, and the Vocals are one of the greatest i have ever heard. Check this album, it is really worthy.

Yes, if you like some Operatic, like Nightwish, check the new band Amberian Dawn.

Oh damn i almost forgot... The most original voice for me is Susanna from Unshine. Her voice is so angelic, so mystic, a really secret for me, but it perfectly can work for you.

I also checked that no one had mentioned Mortal Love. Cat is trully amazing in album "I have lost" Check songs like: Existence, Reality, Adoration.

Well I'm such a fanboy, stuck to Tarja Turunen and probably always will be. Another female voice I really like is the one who sings "Everlost (Part II)" on In Flames first album "Lunar Strain". Can't remember her name though, but her voice is very enchanting. Wonder I she has sung any more Metal? And of course, I can't forget Sarah Jezebel Deva from Cradle of Filth. Surely not the most sweet of voices, but very strong and fits the music perfectly.

Leather Wych (Marta Gabriel) from crystal viper is hands down my favorite female vocalist in metal.
She's solid as fuck and gives more to the heavy metal music the band plays. Pure win
