That was funny. Yeah Marduk are an average band... but Heaven Shall Burn and ROM 5:12 are really good albums, I think they acheived something, even just with those two.

Morgan opened his eyes with a start as Mortuus nudged him gently.
"Thou must awaken," said Mortuus, "verily I say unto thee, we hath many dreary and generic riffs of various genre origins to compose and fit into thy patented template for thy new opus, before entering ye studio and speed tremolo picking an angry faux-black metal song out of it. I thinketh the new album should be christened 'Korinthianzzz PraYer Ritual Angel ov Poo'. I heareth that the cooleth thing in the scene now is scatoliturgical misspelt album titles. Amen".
"Fucking hell I hate you," said Morgan wearily.

I like this part, the part about Star Destroyer Marduk and Star Wars samples is also funny.

Got Mayhem?
ROM 5:12 is ,in my opinion, what 1349 failed to do with Revelations: be a hyperfast black metal band but still have slower, suffocating moments that show your musical diversity.

Marduk definitely had the better album. And most of their old albums are great listens too.

You mean ROM 5:12 is failed? I believe ROM 5:12 is their best album so far. And I think it's not their fastest album, when it's compared to World Funeral.
Some songs like Imago Mortis and Accuser/Opposer are great songs that you've never heard before from Marduk, because basically Marduk songs were mostly extremer and faster songs..
In addition I think Mortuus vocals are far better than Legion's. Legion's was cool and extreme but Mortuus' vocals are very stronger in my opinion.

Hey guys, any thoughts about the new album?

I've just heard the two songs from the myspace and here are my thoughts:

To Redirect Perdition: Good vocals as always but the music was boring, I think they wanted to try soemthing like the song "Accuser/Opposer" [one of my favorite songs btw] but it feels like they totally failed at making a song like that again. It was pretty similar the entire 6 minutes... It wasn't bad but not as great as I want the to be...

Phosphorous Redeemer: Yeaaaaaah, this is more of what I want from this album! The intro with those leads is just awesome. Good song.

So, what about you, guys?

Not just as well as ROM 5:12 for me, but it's not disappointing at all.. Mortuus vocals still easily can beat Legion's..In the album I found Funeral Dawn so insane.. My favorite track of the album.. And also Unclosing The Curse is a very nice one too..
By the way, I liked Maranatha much more than this album.. If we compare Mortuus' own project with his companion with Marduk..

Well, but that's because Funeral Mist started in such a brilliant way. Marduk needed a lot of bad albums to finally find their real sound in ROM 5:12

I haven't heard more soings than the two from the myspace, but I have good hopes about the album, it seems to be a good one. How about you? Are there any huge changes? Is it worth to buy it?

Well, I think it worth of buying for sure if you ask me.. It's a heavy and atmospheric album, with a good production. But it's for me after all. I'm a fan of Mortuus vocals. So I enjoyed it as I enjoyed two previous albums, and his Funeral Mist..

I saw Marduk years ago with Legion on vocals. Solid band but they don't really hit me like other black metal bands. My fav black metal bands and variations are Arcturus, Borknagar, Dark Funeral, Emperor to name a few. Marduk is kinda hit or miss....

When Marduk hit their rhythm they're a great band.
Wormwood seems pretty good to me ATM, but I'll need to give it a few more listens before I'm ready to rate it.

Anytime buddy

I really can't say what are their classics since I'm not into their "classic era", I know very little about their albums except their first albums like:
Dark Endless
-Still Fucking Dead (Here's No Peace)
- The Black...
- Dark Endless
-
Those of the Unlight
- Those Of The Unlight
- Wolves
- On Darkened Wings

Heaven Shall Burn... When We Are Gathered
- Glorification Of The Black God [Kick ass song... I really like the songwritting because it's from one of my favorite classical pieces...]
- Legion

I don't know many though, Like I said I'm not really into their first stuff, so I don't have the best answers but I hope that the small lists could help you a little. Sorry for being too late though!

Rom5:12 definitely. I enjoyed Panzer Division, but it's pretty typical black metal. Rom5:12 on the other hand is pretty unique. Wormwood might be in the same ballpark as Rom5:12, but I have yet to hear it, so you'd have to ask someone like Mr.Doctor about that.

Depends on what you like. Checking your favorite bands I see lots of melody so I really doubt that you will like stuff like Panzer Division M,arduk because it's way to linear and is pretty much the same thing over and over again. There's some good stuff in "Those Of The Unlight ", from what's I've heard of it there's lots of melody and it's not fast-faster-superduperfast all the friggin time. Nice album.
Opus Nocturne has also those melodic touches but it's a little faster and aggressive.

You can also check out "Heaven Shall Burn... When We Are Gathered" althought that's when they started with the all "pointlessly fast as fucking hell" music. But it's still very good unlike "Panzer Division Marduk".

After those three albums... I'll say just like Doc Goblin: Go straight to ROM 5:12 [fantastic album imho... the best I've heard from Marduk] lots and lots of variation and a very nice production with all the instruments very clear.
I haven't heard the latest though, just two tracks from their myspace and they seem as good as some material from ROM 5:12 so check Wormwood as well

Honestly, I really can't say that "ROM 5:12" is that good. Marduk is one of those bands that suck when they try doing something innovative. At least, that's how I feel about them. "Panzer Division Marduk" shows what these guys actually do best, and they should stick to that sound. Just my two cents, of course.

We agree to disagree then. I believe they are pathetic when they try to do the blasturbation over and over again without any sort of meaning. And there are already way too many bands doing that and some of them are better than Marduk of course. There are bands that do the blasturbation but they challenge the listener... PDM on the other hand don't bring anything new at all both musically and lyricwise.

I like the style they have right now, thanks to Mortuus, he helped the band to get some brain [well, he's the mastermind of Funeral Mist after all]. So they get some points from me for puting some orthodox elements on their music and lyric... And finally getting a stable sound since over the years they changed style too many times trying to find something good enough.
