I couldn't find a topic like this, so I'm not sure if there's a lot of interest in it. But since one of the biggest reasons for my coming here is to discover new music, I think we ought to have a topic dedicated to recommending the latest and greatest music to have just been released. We have staff picks and great reviews already, but a lot of stuff goes under the radar. So share your exciting new discoveries or the comebacks of old favorites with the rest of us here.
I guess it's nice to start this from the beginning of the year, but you can of course recommend some 2010 albums you think were overlooked, too.
My recommendations that haven't already been covered by MS reviews are, so far:
Crowbar - Sever The Wicked Hand: Kirk got sober and found Jesus. Good for him, I guess. It doesn't show in the music, which is as thick, sludgy and melancholy as ever before. Another solid addition to an incredibly consistent discography, if not quite their strongest effort.
DoomSword - The Eternal Battle: I've been pretty unfamiliar with DoomSword for a long time even if I've known about them and heard a song here and there. That's still the case. From what I can tell, though, The Eternal Battle is not quite as doomy and epic as their first albums but rather leans towards traditional heavy metal with the faster riffs and stuff. Pretty impressive nonetheless, there's something authentic and endearing about the band. (Couldn't find a sample, sorry.)
Weedeater - Jason... The Dragon: The sludge/stoner act Weedeater buzzes and crushes away with a deep, heavy sound that really appeals to me. When they're loud, they're tight. There's some strange filler and interludes on this album that don't really fit in, though.
Orchid - Capricorn: Orchid have released a lauded EP already, but Capricorn is their first full-length. They play groovy old school Sabbath worship. It's not new, but why should it be when it's this good?
Has that been posted elsewhere? I've definitely heard that song before. Good stuff.
I posted it on my Facebook page about a month ago or so, or maybe a bit longer ago.
Year Of The Goat has Thomas Erikson and Per Brodesson of Griftegard in it.

Didn't find anything by using MS search engine. Marcel's facepage is something I've never visited, I don't even use facebook : P. Good song, that's true.
Yeah it was also Fenriz pick of the week.
I got it via Pim (vocals, Officium Triste)

Nervecell - Psychogenocide
The only record I picked this year. Great Death Metal from the UAE. Uprising band. Features a song with Nile's Karl Sanders on vocals. Worth checking out!
Mindfuck time: technical-post-black-jazz metal combined with screamo. Does it work? You bet your fat ass it does. Definitely one of the most fascinating releases this year (check out both tracks, they're very different):
^ I haven't tried Menace Ruine yet, might do that later.
Mamaleek - Kurdaitcha
Jazzy experimental BM, this album is really cool and pretty catchy.
A Million Dead Birds Laughing - Force Fed Enlightenment
Yeah, I posted this earlier but then I removed it and now I decided to post it again.
Experimental Grindcore/Tech Death from Melbourne, Australia.
Children Of Megaton - The Big Lie
Fallout-inspired Industrial Black Metal
If there is one album I wanted to share with you people this year, it would be the self-titled by a band called Magnus. Holy crap, people, go to their bandcamp page and listen to... pretty much any song.
These dudes play some sort of (mostly instrumental) progressive stoner metal, which will blow you away, I promise!
For instrumental craziness, check "Fade" out. For vocal madness, check "Woebegone".
One more thing... DON'T WAIT!

Those both sound pretty damn good. I like the idea of Fallout inspired music. A Million Dead Birds Laughing sounds like the kind of thing I endlessly look for but never find. Another example of melody and grind coming together very well Will definitely be checking out their stuff. I've heard the Mamaleek album and it's pretty interesting stuff but I don't think it's going to make any of my top lists.

Hhaahah sometimes that happens to me when a band that I would otherwise view as just average ... I see it as a great band just because they are from Chile

I don't even feel any sort of patriotism for this country so I don't get why I feel that way sometimes.

I'm not really patriotic either but it's just that the metal scene isn't that big yet so I might overreact when there's an average band and I inmediatly think they are quite good. You on the other hand don't have that excuse

Well I suppose we're pretty up there when it comes to doom but black and death metal scene aren't really ever noticed. Then again we have feck all death metal wise worthing praising apart from Bolt Thrower. But yeah, good point.
