I couldn't find a topic like this, so I'm not sure if there's a lot of interest in it. But since one of the biggest reasons for my coming here is to discover new music, I think we ought to have a topic dedicated to recommending the latest and greatest music to have just been released. We have staff picks and great reviews already, but a lot of stuff goes under the radar. So share your exciting new discoveries or the comebacks of old favorites with the rest of us here.

I guess it's nice to start this from the beginning of the year, but you can of course recommend some 2010 albums you think were overlooked, too.

My recommendations that haven't already been covered by MS reviews are, so far:

Crowbar - Sever The Wicked Hand: Kirk got sober and found Jesus. Good for him, I guess. It doesn't show in the music, which is as thick, sludgy and melancholy as ever before. Another solid addition to an incredibly consistent discography, if not quite their strongest effort.

DoomSword - The Eternal Battle: I've been pretty unfamiliar with DoomSword for a long time even if I've known about them and heard a song here and there. That's still the case. From what I can tell, though, The Eternal Battle is not quite as doomy and epic as their first albums but rather leans towards traditional heavy metal with the faster riffs and stuff. Pretty impressive nonetheless, there's something authentic and endearing about the band. (Couldn't find a sample, sorry.)

Weedeater - Jason... The Dragon: The sludge/stoner act Weedeater buzzes and crushes away with a deep, heavy sound that really appeals to me. When they're loud, they're tight. There's some strange filler and interludes on this album that don't really fit in, though.

Orchid - Capricorn: Orchid have released a lauded EP already, but Capricorn is their first full-length. They play groovy old school Sabbath worship. It's not new, but why should it be when it's this good?

'The Archer & The Owle', wicked awesome sludge EP from Thou. Here's a rather awesome cover of Nirvana's 'Something in the Way':

Mescalin Massacre - Liquid, Soma, Death. Psychedelic industrial BM, trippy stuff. Can't you people see that the dude on the album cover is moving?

The new Omega Massif is probably pretty massive, Pelican-style instrumental sludge doom.

Mescalin Massacre - Liquid, Soma, Death.

Listening to this short but very sweet full length now. Those trippy cybery omnipresent sounds are excellent. Kinda sounds like great industrial black metal overlaying Beherit's 'Electric Doom Synthesis' album

There are so many atmospheric black metal bands doing their thang this year. This is just one of them that rocks many pairs of socks:

Some nice funeral doom mixed with some sludge, I haven't listened to the whole album yet but this track is very promising. The album is only released on vinyl so I quess you have to download it if you don't have a vinyl player.

I strongly recommend:

Ulcerate's "The Destroyers of All"
Fleshgod Apocalypse's "Agony"
Craft's "Void"
Decapitated's "Carnival Is Forever" (even if it is the worst Decapitated album to date, it still is Top 5 this year. Even their worst release can rival any great album)

That Ulcerate album was really a great find.

The new Decapitated is excellent.

I can't wait to hear Deivos' new album, in full. These two tracks are pretty teeth-kicking: http://soundcloud.com/deivosdeathmetal

Thanks for updating me on that new Deivos! Didn't know there was a new one coming! I'm checking it right now and it sounds killer, indeed!

Incredibible post-ish-death metal in the vein of Ulcerate but with a post hardcore twist (thanks to Mikyz for this). Anyone that found the recent Ulcerate lacked variation but liked the style might like this:

New Corrupted sounds very promising. I've only heard this first track, but it's good (if a little overly long; it's not actually as long as the video though). Drone/ambient/funeral doom/sludge or whatever.

well, it's just for a fast approach to their style By the way, they are from your country, I believe you have many good bands there going out lastly! Is it so big the metal scene there? :O (Saille is one of the best debuts of 2011 for me, no doubt)

Burial Sun - Burial Sun
I haven't heard the full album yet however I did order the LP and it's limited to 200 copies so act fast if you want one. The samples over at the label's MySpace sounds very promising, dark and atmospheric black metal but with epic and melodic parts, the vocals are also pretty brutal. Maybe not the most original stuff but still very good.

You can listen to the samples here http://www.myspace.com/anticreationproductions

A very interesting Australian group known as Pirate released their debut album earlier this month. Can't really describe their sound to be honest, some sort of Prog rock/metal with plenty of saxophone (which, as they describe on their myspace, "think's its a guitar too"):
