Now That I pretty much own all the key essential death metal debuts, and I have had the time to enjoy and decide which had the greatest effect on me,I was curious to what you thought? It may be a very difficult decision, being all of the albums are magnificent in their own way,but what comes to mind as the most groundbreaking?I believe all of these albums played a part in defining the genre, but what album was more important than "Scream Bloody Gore"?It gave birth to the extreme gore lyrical themes, and intense gutteral vocals, that all death bands would use.So that is the reason behind my choice for best debut,Chuck you where and are an innovative genius.Yeah I might've left out some personal favs.,but I cant please everyone.

It was a tie between slowly we rot and altars of madness for me. In the end I voted altars for madness because I liked Morbid Angel before I even heard of Obituary. They both get my vote tho

//What makes Altars Of Madness better than Deicide's debut for you guys? I've tried listening to both back to back and think Deicide's debut blows Altars of Madness away. I'm not saying that Altars is bad, it's still very good, but i don't see any reason to call it better than Deicide's debut//

Idk, I feel a more evil atmosphere in Altars... not to mention that imo the musicianship is a lot tighter on Altars making for very focused brutality. I also find Altars a lot more memorable.

//Well put. The musicianship is a little tighter, i agree//

I didn't vote. To choose between Altars Of Madness, Scream Bloody Gore and Left Hand Path is very difficult for me.
The others are fine too, but Suffocation's and Immolation's can't compete with these 3 IMO.
Deicide and Cannibal Corpse are not among my fav bands and Possessed's Seven Churches is a very very good album but a little blury.
Maybe Obituary can top the above but Cause Of Death had to be their debut.
No, I can't decide between first Morbid Angel, Death and Entombed.

It was tough, since I really enjoy Scream Bloody Gore, but in the end I just like that Sun Studio buzz-saw guitar sound to vote for anything other than Left Hand Path

Dunno if I'd call it the best death metal debut, but it is definitely nice to see someone else appreciate this album. What do you think of Diabolical Summoning?

Seven Churches is where my vote goes. Altars Of Madness, Slowly We Rot and Scream Bloody Gore are all awesome, but Seven Churches has them beat by a small margin.

Yeah, Sinister deserve more recognition. Cross the Styx is pretty close to being a masterpiece... It has more of a raw sound than Diabolical Summoning too, which works in favour of the music. There were some damn memorable songs actually on those first 2 albums, like 'Cross the Styx' and 'Sacramental Carnage'...

There are merely several truths that can be held or deemed as self-evident. For instance, to draw forth something odd as to Not mention Pestilence's Malleus Maleficarum (an example among many). This poll was created by Mega-Slayer who by the way happens to be into Pestilence (are you?). Plus, you should've put the "other" option, so members like me wouldn't be bothering you . Anyway, your list has many impressively big striking names but unfortunately their debuts are respectively either good or average but definitely not "splendid" as their names seems to be so I won't cast my vote for now. Here's a tip, do some changes in your poll . (I respect your choice though).

Outlandish! Malleus Maleficarum is not death metal?! Well, before I start to evaluate your abilities to "reconize" fine distinctions, know this, big names deserve your respect my friend, so when it comes to defining an album coming from a "weighty" band, write down the full name not just "malleus malf". Back to your post. Buddy, saying"X" album is thrash death is way off the mark, as thrash gave birth to death, so you could've just said it's death metal to cap it all, my fault, I should've been more specific, it's a pure death metal album, nothing more, nothing less. It's funny because I spend 75% of my Metal Storm's time on reading members' posts who seem to "have" the power to categorize bands (I doubt though) and I'm sure none of them know exactly what death metal is, including myself.

first of all when i want to restrict the time that i need to write a post i don't think that it has to do with respect on saying "maleus malf". i can mention many bands playing death metal music with thrash metal vocals which released thrash/death albums. sepultura and beneath the remains is one of them. van drunen's vocals on maleus are 1/100 more harsh than cavelera's on that album. don't get me wrong right???
