But am I the only one that feels these pictures only prove Watain is getting more and more about image?

At least now they have the budget to take care of a proper show. Even at the time of Casus Luceferi they already used a lot of stage props. They just didn't have the money to do it the way they do it now.
It is still about the music primarily with them.

Maybe, I never really got into this band. I don't like it for some reason (always thought Dissection was boring, too). I don't know, it wouldn't surprise me at all if this band would go (half-way) Dimmu Borgir on us in a couple of years (say, three or four albums from now).

I was just listening to Casius Luciferi today. Pretty good album, pretty straightforward though. I think I've listened to Lawless Darkness the most at this point.

Watain is the best and most interesting Swedish black metal band IMO. Seen them live a couple of times, last time was at the Hole in the Sky festival in Bergen, Norway in August. Amazing show, they create magic. Erik Danielsson is a great frontman with his controlled madness and enchaning vocals.

Watain is awesome I just got Lawless Darkness and it is a brilliant album as is their past albums

I like bands like watain, naglfar, destroyer 666, cirith gorgor, ragnarok and thyrane. im looking to expand my collected. any suggestions???

That's not difficult. Watain doesn't have a bad release, so buy all, Destroyer666 doesn't have a bad release , so buy all, from Naglfar I only listened to Pariah and Harvest but they're ok. Cirith Gorgor doesn't have a bad release, so buy all, and guess...Ragnarok doesn't have a bad release, so buy all.
I don't know the band Thyrane so no suggestion.

But...that's only my opinion

BTW, someone heard the news (the right news) about Otargos leaving the tour with Watain?
I heard that Danielsson was "under influence" got totally fucked up and put a knife in the arm of the singer/guitarist from Otargos but I don't know it's true.

Lawless Darkness is good for what it is - straight-forward black metal with melodic overtones done right. I like it. They've always tried to stand aside from most of their contemporaries and I somehow get the feeling that they try too hard. By and large, Lawless Darkness is nothing extraordinary or doesn't bring anything drastically new to table IMO. I like how they try and mix things up and a good portion of the album is enjoyable. However, I don't see this one standing tall down the line.

The first song seems like a little filler to me though but maybe I just need to listen to it again, but all the others are amazing. Brilliant leads most of the time.

Nah, I think my older self was talking shit... Not because Watain is the ultimate band because I still preffer Funeral Mist and Ondskapt over Watain every day of the week.... But my older self was wrong because he was just saying "me don't like" before he actually sat and listened to a Watain album from start to finish. The fucker didn't even search for older material like Casus Luciferi...

I learned something today, before you say "me don't like..." listen to the entire album.

But now I really think the first song is filler, the other ones are great though...

Yes, I can understand your opinion. I believe that I can handle that style of Black Metal with just a couple of bands playing that style, otherwise I would find it boring as hell. It's very catchy though and that's fine with me. Sometimes I need catchy music.

The Dude abi...concurs, man. Casus Luciferi is an awesome record, but in comparison, I've hardly listened to Lawless Darkness. It's missing some magical touch, that CL had.

Btw, Casus Luceferi is my favourite by them closely followed by Rabid's Death Curse and then closely by Lawless Darkness and Sworn To The Dark, although the production is clean on those two it does suit their current musical course which is way more melodic and Dissectionesque than the first two. But both SttD and LD do land that punch if you like a more black metal Dissection.

Yeah, I leave that stuff to the true metalheads... or whatever. My friend told me that Erik (Watain) argued with a guy at a concert because he was wearing a shirt (that my friend didn't recognize), which he wasn't true enough to wear. What the fuck... who cares?
