Bands
Sinisthra

SINISTHRA has been in existence for a good five years by now, formerly operating under the name NEVERGREEN. The band comes from Helsinki Finland. Their brand of music is basically metal, drawing from a wide source of different influences and blending them to a sound that can't really be compared to any one single band.

An apt description would be metal with all the most common metal clichés removed. The members have a long history of playing in various Finnish metal bands, starting from Protected Illusion who caused quite a stir in the thrash metal circuit in the early 90's, and most recently with Amorphis. Their musical past is not forgotten but it's not heavily present in their sound, either.

Bands
Solitary Sabred

.: The Early Days

Solitary Sabred were formed by Jimmys Demetriou (guitars - the only surviving original member) in the year 2000 and went through several member changes up to the year 2004 when he left Cyprus to continue his studies abroad, leaving behind some rehearsal demos from that era. The basic structure of some of the band's songs (like "The Trojan Hero" for instance), dates back to those days.

.: The Reawakening and the Promo DvD

Fast forward to the summer of 2007, when Jimmys met Petros Leptos (Bass&Vocals) during a local gig. They soon became best of friends and found out they shared the same passion for deranged old school U.S. epic/progressive/power metal, and the same vision of performing this type of music live. They promptly re-recruited Antros Ioannou (the original Sabred drummer), and started rehearsing periodically due to the fact that Jimmys was still studying abroad, while at the same time working on writing original material by exchanging mp3 demos. In May 2008, Jimmy completed his studies and the band went in full motion, rehearsing hard to fine tune their songs, in time for Power of the Night Festival III, they were set to perform in. Due to time and distance limitations, they parted ways with Antros, and Achilleas Michael (x-drummer of Cypriot metallers R.u.s.t.) stepped in to pledge his arsenal to the Sabred cause, and pound the drums of war! Solitary Sabred gave their first live performance at Power of the Night III, receiving an overwhelming feedback from the crowd! The concert was recorded and released as a DVD promo entitled Solitary Sabred - "Live", which stirred an interest around the band and turned a few record label ears in their direction.

Bands
Solothus

The band took its earliest form in the year 2007 in Parainen, when Kari and Santeri decided to start a band. Veli-Matti was also a founding member, but since he lived hundreds of kilometers away, he rarely was at rehearsals. The band had many line-ups and names throughout 2007, but at the end of the year, the name Solothus was chosen.

In the year 2008, most members served their military duties and the band wasn't active. A new line-up was made early in 2009 in Turku. Alex entered the picture, either playing the bass or the guitar. The band rehearsed with this line-up until 2010. Rami joined as a guitarist somewhere along the road. In the autumn of 2010, Veli-Matti moved to Turku and the band got serious.

At first I thought Dark Fortress wouldn't be such a likely candidate for our highest rated album of 2020, a position in which it has since been dethroned. But the more I think about it, it kinda makes sense.
