Last time I heard Soulburner's material was back in mid 2005 or something, I reviewed their demo and hell it was a great one by the way. Now they are back louder than ever with their debut Full Length When Sanity Is Lost? It is one hell of an album let me tell you; of course it's still a debut so it has a couple of flaws, but overall it's an amazing Death Metal piece that will please most extreme ears around.

The structures and lines surrounding this album are magnificent, that's actually one of the best features you'll get with Soulburner the songwriting; it gives us super catchy riffs and pummeling beats all along the album with it's consequential pieces of sheer brutality. When Sanity Is Lost It's an album that gathers all its features in each song and then unleashes them to finally fuck your brains out 11 times in a row?well actually 10 times but I'll talk about it later.

The music is just Death Metal in the vein of early Deicide, it has a few twist (including clean vocals, similar to what early Doom bands like Candlemass used) and some cool technical edges. More o less that's the overall sound, it appears to be kind of simple and clichéd right? But once you hear the capabilities these Mexican guys have you'll be amazed no doubt, it's so not the regular "just Death Metal" band believe me.

Where are the turn-offs you might ask; well I was overly impressed by the power and strength of this debut album, but yes there are a couple of turn offs. The big one is unfortunately a tune in the album, the tenth track called "Gleams of Force"; this song has nothing to do with the rest of the album in terms of execution, I wonder why but the instrumentation in this tune sounds uninspired when it comes to the riffing and the drumming, it sounds like a lot of work if you know what I mean. Another turn off is the production, but you can't be really picky in that matter when you are reviewing a debut album.

Overall it's a really good album, every song (excluding that tenth track) has something great to offer; If you like Death Metal then I really recommend you to buy [i]When Sanity Is Lost]/i] as soon as possible, it's a very interesting work from a very interesting band.

Best Tracks: "Weakness", "Age of Murder", "Bastard Son"
